While we were all getting down to business with the opening weekend of the EFL season this time last week - the proper football, as we like to think of it - the fancy Dans of the top flight were enjoying a few more days relaxing on their sun loungers.

Today is the day for the Premier League, however, and you can follow all the action as it unfolds throughout the afternoon by clicking here.

Though we'd prefer it if you stayed with us, of course

Don't forget we're after your suggestions for an EFL Fantasy team this afternoon via #bbcefl

While you're drafting your complaints to the BBC Trust to say I left out your favourite player in my XI earlier, please allow me to offer brief explanations for my choices:

Goalkeeper: Preston don't concede many, so Anders Lindegaard should enjoy some clean sheets.

Defenders: Portsmouth's Enda Stevens started all 46 League Two games last term, Bristol City's Aden Flint has goals in him and Plymouth's Gary Miller's has Scottish Premiership experience.

Midfield: Assists - that's what Exeter's Lee Holmes and Sheffield United's Mark Duffy should bring. Wes Hoolahan needs no introduction and Mo Diame is one you probably can't afford not to pick.

Forwards: Tomer Hemed is usually involved in Brighton's goals - and they score a lot of them - and I'll wager that Millwall's Lee Gregory and Charlton's Nicky Ajose could be League One's top scorers this season.

So, I hereby challenge you to submit your team. Who did I overlook?

  8. How times changepublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

Did you know? Of the seven club grounds that hosted matches at Euro 96, five of them are hosting Championship football this season: Elland Road, Hillsborough, St James' Park, The City Ground and Villa Park.

And today we've got Aston Villa, Leeds and Newcastle all playing their first home games, so I wanted to share that little Euro 96 stat with you.

Now, I know what you're thinking - the stat would work a lot better if all five of the relevant teams were playing at home....but I'm sorry to tell you I've scoured through the fixture list and that isn't actually going to happen this season.

But the question is....how long will it be until these famous English stadiums host top flight football again?

For the nine Championship teams who lost their opening game last weekend, you could say the pressure is on already. Nobody likes an bad run at the start of a new season.

New Leeds boss Garry Monk will be hoping to make a good impression in front of the Elland Road faithful.

Of course, I couldn't ask that of you without having a go myself... So here is my hastily thrown together Fantasy EFL XI for 2016-17.

And yes, I know what I've just done: I've a) inflicted the inevitable commentators curse on all these players so that they will now all have bad seasons (sorry) and b) made you all angry because I've not picked your team's star man.

Think you can pick a better Fantasy XI? Let us know via #bbcefl

Let's lay down a couple of ground rules though - your team must include players from all three divisions. Agreed? Cool. Right, go!

I bet many of you spent some time this week picking players for a Premier League fantasy team, am I right? It's become something of a national obsession for sports fans.

But, in what I feel is a big oversight from the powers that be, nobody ever seems to do an English Football League Fantasy competition. (I know, I can't believe it either).

So today I'm asking you, if such a Fantasy league existed, who would you pick for your English Football League Fantasy XI?

So, what is coming up in the EFL this afternoon? Well, in the Championship, Aston Villa and Newcastle will be looking for their first wins since dropping out of the Premier League, before Norwich host Sheffield Wednesday in the 17:30 kick-off.

There will also be 11 games in League One and a full programme of League Two fixtures. Will Millwall and Luton still top their respective divisions at 17:00 BST?

  15. Welcomepublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

Hello there! Welcome, football fans. It's time for another Saturday afternoon of English Football League action.

Wait, what?! How have we reached the second weekend already? Does anyone else feel as though the new season is flying by?

Well, of the 1,656 matches in the English Football League this season, we've had 37. So there's a long way to go, and plenty of time for your team to turn things around if they have had a poor start so far.

Wherever you are, sit back, relax and try to enjoy the next five-and-a-half hours. You surely can't be nervous yet... Right? It's still only August, after all.
