Pep Guardiola - the Tony Soprano of football?

Pep Guardiola is not afraid to be ruthless. In fact, over the course of his football management career he has bumped off more people than Tony Soprano.

He got rid of the likes of Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Barcelona and bombed out Mario Gomez, Xherdan Shaqiri and Mario Mandzukic at Bayern Munich.

Now Joe Hart appears to be in his firing line. Is Pep being too ruthless? Or are you happy with the decisions he has made so far at Manchester City? Where has it gone wrong for Hart, and where does he go next?

  2. Hart's last game for City?published at 18:56 British Summer Time 24 August 2016

Man City v Steaua Bucharest (19:45 BST)

So, keeper Joe Hart starts his first game of the season for Manchester City and possibly last at the club he has served for the last 10 years. Midfielder Yaya Toure, who could also be leaving before the transfer window closes, also starts for the first time this season.

There are just three players who started the first leg in Romania last week that start at the Etihad - defenders Aleksandar Kolarov and John Stones, and forward Nolito.

Manchester City XI: Hart, Maffeo, Stones, Kolarov, Clichy, Fernando, Toure, Delph, Nolito, Navas, Iheanacho. Subs: Gunn, Adarabioyo, Angelino, Fernandinho, Aguero, Sterling, Silva.

Steaua Bucharest XI: Cojocaru, Mitrea, Tamaş, Momcilovic, Popescu, Hamroun, Muniru Sulley, Aganovic, Enache, Bourceanu, Tudorie.

Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick as Manchester City thrashed Steaua Bucharest in the first leg of this Champions League qualifying play-off.

Aguero even missed two penalties either side of David Silva's opener, while Nolito was also on the scoresheet.

The result means that - barring something utterly bizarre happening - confirmation of City's place in the group is stage of the Champions League is little more than a formality.

It really is quite the fall from grace for Joe Hart.

He's gone from being the mainstay in a title-winning side to being granted a run out in a dead rubber, but it is what it is and the 29-year-old will no doubt do his best to put himself in the shop window if, as is to be expected, he leaves before deadline day.

Although, I'm not convinced he'll have much chance to impress in a game that was done and dusted as a contest in the first leg...

  6. A farewell performance?published at 18:45

    How quickly things can change.

It wasn't too long ago that Joe Hart's name on a Manchester City teamsheet was a given. So much so, in fact, the chap tasked with printing them out could probably have just left it on the master copy and filled in the other 10 starting positions each week.

That, though, is no longer the case. Out of favour under Pep Guardiola, the England number one appears to be Manchester City's number three, behind Willy Caballero and the incoming Claudio Bravo.

Benched for the first few games of the season, Hart is is set to be reinstated for tonight's game against Steaua Bucharest. With Man City 5-0 up from the first leg, it is very much a dead rubber tie.

With the transfer window closing next Wednesday, is this to be Hart's final farewell?
