It's not just Derby that have been busy in the transfer market.

Newcastle United have also added to their squad, with Christian Atsu, Daryl Murphy and Achraf Lazaar bringing a bit of depth before the ceremonial slamming shut of the proverbial window.

"I'm pleased with the business we have done," Benitez told BBC Newcastle.

"We had our targets, we couldn't do exactly what we wanted bit we were close to hat.

"In terms of position we did pretty much what we wanted, but in terms of names we had to adapt."

With one goal in five Championship games so far, Derby boss Nigel Pearson has turned to the transfer market in a bid to improve their fortunes.

Strikers Matej Vydra and James Wilson, plus winger Ikechi Anya all arrived during the window to bolster Pearson's options.

His existing players have had a fortnight to reflect on defeat by Burton last time out, following the international break.

"There's been a reaction in training, but we need to produce performances on match-days that give us a better chance of winning games," Pearson told BBC Radio Derby.

"I'm not pointing something out the players aren't striving for themselves.

"What the players coming in give us is a bit of freshness, and a bit of pace which is what you need in the modern game. Pace and power."

  8. Big clubs, big expectationspublished at 17:16

Yes, it's last but certainly not least tonight as Derby County welcome a Newcastle United side to the iPro Stadium for a tussle of two of the Championship's big promotion hopefuls.

Rams boss Nigel Pearson is no stranger to Newcastle, having been assistant and even caretaker manager there in his career.

His job tonight is to ignite Derby's season and check Newcastle's improving progress under his adversary - Champions League winning boss Rafael Benitez.

Kick-off awaits, in around 15 minutes time.

Cambridge, beaten by Plymouth, are still without a win and bottom of the table, while Yeovil above them also lost at home to Hartlepool.

  13. Leaders Huddersfield march onpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 10 September 2016

    Leeds 0-1 Huddersfield

Aaron Mooy's long-distance effort was the only difference on the scoresheet, but Huddersfield were much the better side against Leeds at Elland Road.

United fall into the relegation zone, having won only one game all season.

"Abysmal" is the verdict from BBC Radio Leeds' Adam Pope. What could this loss mean for head coach Garry Monk's future?

  14. Wednesday hold on to beat Wiganpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 10 September 2016

    Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Wigan

They went behind to Will Grigg's early goal, but Sheffield Wednesday are deserved winners at Hillsbrough.

Steven Fletcher's first-half shot levelled the scores, before Fernando Forestieri got the crucial second goal just after the hour mark.

  15. Barnsley beat Preston to go secondpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 10 September 2016

    Adam ArmstrongImage source, Rex Features

Barnsley are up to second in the table after picking up their first away win of the season.

Adam Armstrong's strike was the difference, after Aiden McGeady's goal had cancelled out Sam Winnall's opener for the Tykes.

  16. Blackburn draw but stay bottompublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 10 September 2016

Sam Gallagher's header rescues Blackburn a point at QPR, but Rovers remain bottom of the table.

The R's will be disappointed to only have drawn this one after Tjaronn Chery's stunning free-kick had given them a second-half lead.

They remain in the play-off places, but could slip down the table depending on how Newcastle get on against Derby in the 17:30 kick-off.

  17. goal

GOAL: Wolves 1-1 Burtonpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 10 September 2016

    Will Miller

Burton leave it to the 94th minute, but they have surely earned themselves a point at Molineux. Lloyd Dyer swings in a cross, and Will Miller is there to touch it home.

Speaking of late equalisers - Bristol City have completed the turnaround at Rotherham, Bobby Reid stabbing home at the far post to make it 2-2.

It almost got even better for the visitors too - but Jamie Paterson struck the woodwork from close range.

  18. Postpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 10 September 2016

    QPR 1-1 Blackburn

QPR are pressing hard for a winner against Blackburn, Idrissa Sylla the latest player to be denied when he fires too close to Jason Steele in the Rovers goal from close range.

Chris Wood has just missed another good chance for Leeds against Huddersfield as well, directing a header straight at the goalkeeper when unmarked in the box.

If there was ever a script waiting to be written, then it's this one.

James Coppinger, 12 years a Doncaster player, making his 500th appearance, has got his side's fifth in a 5-1 lead against Morecambe.

It'll take them fourth as it stands. Richly deserved, great servant.

  20. Dons-Blades goalfestpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 10 September 2016

This was a top-flight encounter 25 years ago, but Wimbledon versus Sheffield United is now a third-tier match-up - not that it lacks anything for excitement.

Dave Bassett is a special guest at this one, a man whose name is held high regard by both, and the two teams have given him everything.

It's 3-2 so far - Tom Elliott's goal for the Dons keeping the interest levels high at Kingsmeadow.
