Contrasting games in the Premier League on this Sunday.

We began with a rather tedious affair between Middlesbrough and Watford, which was won by a solitary goal - and what a goal it was - by the Hornets.

That was followed by a shot fest at St Mary's where Southampton scattered Tom Heaton with 34 shots - the most this season.

Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton: "First and foremost you do your job for the team but it counts for nothing if you lose. We have more to give.

"Two set pieces have cost us, it's very frustrating. We are not far away, we have shown it in patches but not 100% of the time.

"We can box on the back foot but we have to find a balance. [The save from Charlie Austin's header] That's probably one of the best saves I've made, I got a fingertip on it and pushed it around the post.

"We are pleased with how we've gone about it so far, we are building momentum. We don't fear anyone."

Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "We should have had a penalty at 0-0 which would make the game different. That's stretching it a bit because they are a very good side but we needed that decision. It's beyond a good shout, it's an impossible decision to get wrong.

"They got a very soft penalty, minimal contact if any. But this is not making excuses, they could have scored seen more, but you need those decisions to go your way.

"Southampton are in good form, they break their shape and they are a side to be reckoned with.

"We know home form is important for us. We have shown bravery at home and we have to take games on away from home now. A bit more bravery to play with freedom. We are tense away from home."

Southampton manager Claude Puel: "I take pleasure this afternoon with a very good second half. It was very interesting to play this game. Difficult in the first half after the injury of Matt Targatt. We lost a little control of the game.

"After we came back with a good intention and situation. It was very good to see my players to take pleasure. I think we could have scored many goals this afternoon. I’m happy for my players."

More from Southampton striker Charlie Austin: "I've got seven goals in the last six but we are seven unbeaten. That's the main thing. We knew it would be a frustrating afternoon if we didn't score early but once we scored one we kicked on.

"This team will always create chances, it's a dream for any striker. I am in the right place at the right time.

"I don't play for Burnley no more, I have great respect for the club and the fans, Sean Dyche is superb, but I love celebrating goals and I celebrate every one I score. My job is to score goals for Southampton."

Southampton striker Charlie Austin: "I thought it was going to be one of those afternoons, I missed a few chances, but once we got one we went on to get two or three. I half celebrated that header in the first half but it was a great save from Tom Heaton! 

"We are top half now and we have got tough fixtures coming up, City away, Chelsea at home and Inter Milan. The international break can hinder you but we have carried on from where we left off."

Southampton's 34 shots against Burnley today is the most in any Premier League game this season.

Only three goals though, but goalkeeper Tom Heaton did make 11 saves.

Southampton goalscorer Nathan Redmond: "We carved out a few chances and once Charlie sniffed one out they all followed. I've been working hard in training and trying to score more goals. I am working on it daily.

"We can achieve whatever we want to this season."

No complaints at all after that match. Sometimes the scoreline doesn't give you a true reflection of the performances but this one did. 

Burnley came for the draw and didn't get it but they have got to address this form away from home in order to stay up.

The only downside from Southampton is that they conceded a goal.

Mike Dean blows the final whistle.

But for goalkeeper Tom Heaton, this could have been an ugly scoreline for Burnley.

Southampton will be disappointed they have not got more than three goals today.

Firstly, James Ward-Prowse is through and tries to chip Tom Heaton, but the Burnley goalkeeper pushes the ball away.

Then Dusan Tadic has a free header from inside the six-yard box, but it is straight at Heaton.

Hah, Tom Heaton with ANOTHER save. I make that 10 saves in the match now.

Sub Sam McQueen curls a lovely ball to the back for the Jay Rodriguez, who is free, but the striker's bobbled shot is pushed away by the England goalkeeper.

On Any Sunday, that is a goal, just not this one.

The first half was not the best, but it has been a really enjoyable second period.

Southampton have had a total of 32 shots in this match - the joint-highest total this season, matched only by Liverpool against Hull.

Burnley have to start picking up points away from home somehow. 

Otherwise it will be too much pressure to win every game at Turf Moor in order to stay up. 

Nearly a fourth for Southampton, but Tom Heaton makes another save, pushing away James Ward-Prowse's curling effort which was heading for the bottom corner.

What a miss!

Dusan Tadic whips a ball into the six-yard box which is inch perfect for Jose Fonte, but the defender somehow heads wide of goal.

This is beautiful football from Claude Puel's men.

Nathan Redmond starts it off with a flick around the corner on halfway, before Steven Davis carries the ball to the edge of the box.

He plays in team-mate Cuco Martina on the right, whose shot is blocked and the ball falls in the area to Davis.

The Northern Ireland man takes a deep breath, but he cannot find the target with his shot as it drifts wide of goal.
