Summary

  • De Gea superbly denies Can & Coutinho

  • Ibrahimovic heads wastefully wide for Utd

  • Liverpool stay fourth, United seventh

  1. 'Liverpool look better already'published at 21:26 British Summer Time 17 October 2016

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

    Kevin Kilbane
Former Everton and Sunderland winger and MOTD2 pundit

Liverpool already look better with Firmino at centre-forward. He is working harder than Daniel Sturridge was when Liverpool do not have the ball, and his movement when they do have possession is much better too - he is stretching United's defence and creating space for his team-mates with his runs.

You can hear more from Kevin on MOTD2 at 22:45 BST on BBC One and the BBC Sport website (23:15-00:15, BBC One NI & BBC Two Wales).

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

James Milner winds up for a shot on the edge of the box but Paul Pogba steps across to block it - there is a collision of feet and that looks painful on both counts.

No foul given, both players able to continue. Liverpool unlucky not to get the decision.

  3. 'A huge impact'published at 21:24 British Summer Time 17 October 2016

Ex-Wales midfielder on BBC 5 live

The Liverpool players look happier with Lallana on the field.

They seem to know what they are doing.

He has had a huge impact.

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

It's been all Liverpool for the last 10 minutes, since that Zlatan Ibrahimovic miss. Liverpool look better since the change, that's for sure. Adam Lallana skips into the area and wins a corner.

  6. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Marcus Rashford back as an auxiliary right-back to win the ball back for Manchester United. He'll surely end up as a centre-forward - if they still exist - but he's learning all aspects of the game at the moment.

Rick in Manchester: It's ok being results focused, but I think it's a bit sad seeing United approach games like this. It's against the DNA of the club.

  8. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Adam Lallana plays a one-two with Roberto Firmino and ends up lacing a shot hugely wide, but the Kop still give him a massive ovation. There's spark and purpose to his game.

Sadio Mane then beats two tackles. Is it stirring?

It's Liverpool's preferred front three out there now then. Daniel Sturridge just doesn't really fit the system does he?

What a save, a strong right hand from David de Gea.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 59 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Great save! Maybe the game is going to open up in its final third after all.

Great pass through from defence by Joel Matip, Emre Can has a comparitive ocean of space, he works it on to his left foot and hits it low and hard, and David de Gea makes a massive save with his Red Right Hand.

    Fine stop.

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Liverpool just cannot get going in this game and Manchester United are currently well in control - indeed Zlatan should have given them the lead with that header.

Jurgen Klopp is about to introduce Adam Lallana in an attempt to give Liverpool some fresh impetus, which they certainly need.

With the way this game has gone we may struggle to get a better chance than that header for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Adam Lallana is imminent.

    Ibrahimovic should have scored.

Great skill from Pogba, he's whipped it in and Ibrahimovic should have hit the target.

  19. CLOSE!published at 54 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

The MOTD2 editors will be struggling for highlights to cut at the moment. We could have 20 minutes on the cat that ran onto the pitch. But CHANCE!A massive chance for Manchester United as Paul Pogba puts over a great cross from the right, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has lost his marker and heads it wide from eight yards out.

He put it across goal, almost caught in two minds with it. He really should score!

Who is going to take the game by the scruff of the neck?

In the past you have had a Steven Gerrard or a Wayne Rooney.
