You can't judge a 38-game season from a 25-minute spell but Liverpool look streets away from title challengers here.

And the first real chance as Marcus Rashford skins James Milner easily, leaves him for dead and flashes in a dangerous low cross which keeper Loris Karius pushes out and away. Well played!

Liverpool need to get Philippe Coutinho on the ball more. Emre Can is not quick enough with his passing and is not looking forward enough. Generally Liverpool’s use of the ball has been sloppy so far, which is why Manchester United have seen so much of it.

What I like about United is that they are packing a punch whenever they get possession - they are trying to get forward as well. It definitely suits Paul Pogba to have Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera behind him.

Mourinho will be the happier manager. They have silenced the crowd and are keeping the ball. 

They haven't created chances but they have had the possession and Fellaini and Herrera are dictating the midfield battle.

Ander Herrera spreads the play with a great touch out wide, Daley Blind has a bit of space but then wallops a rubbish cross out of play behind the goal. That's a real waste. 

Manchester United keeping the ball so easily at the moment, the famous Liverpool pressing game is nowhere to be seen.

Manchester United have, so far at least, not allowed Liverpool to build up the head of steam that has troubled so many teams this season.

Jurgen Klopp is out of his seat in the technical area and waving his players forward. There is too much football being played in the Liverpool half for his liking.

It has been a positive start from Man United, Liverpool haven't really got going.

United are winning all of the second balls.

Paul Pogba is definitely playing much further forward than normal and he's starting to become an influence, playing a one-two with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and seeing a shot well blocked. 

Ricology: A typical Mourinho performance. Just throw bodies behind the ball & make sure not to lose then counter attack & clinch a goal

Ben Rabinovich: So far it's just been a very aggressive game of pin-ball.
