Adam Lallana gets better with every game he misses for club and country. Here's something for the home fans to enjoy though as Jordan Henderson drills a flat cross into the penalty area from deep and Roberto Firmino heads straight at David de Gea.

We have not seen Coutinho or Firmino.

I think Liverpool are missing Lallana.

Seth Gogo Egoeh: Ander Herrera is a player! What a job he's doing in that United setup this evening!

Michael Bedwell: Have the Liverpool players put their clocks back a few weeks early? The game has already started guys. It's been all Utd so far

Tim Arstall: Really impressed with Herrera, pivotal role in the United midfield pinging incisive passes out wide

'Where's your famous atmosphere?' chant the Manchester United fans. Catty.

It triggers plenty of noise though. Job done.

On the pitch it's still Manchester United looking the slicker. Klopp's Liverpool can't get going at all.

Referee Anthony Taylor lets another one go as Ander Herrera chops down Sadio Mane. The fans want a yellow card, nothing given.

  6. CLOSE!published at 24 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

You can't judge a 38-game season from a 25-minute spell but Liverpool look streets away from title challengers here.

And the first real chance as Marcus Rashford skins James Milner easily, leaves him for dead and flashes in a dangerous low cross which keeper Loris Karius pushes out and away. Well played!

  7. Liverpool need to find Coutinhopublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 17 October 2016

Liverpool need to get Philippe Coutinho on the ball more. Emre Can is not quick enough with his passing and is not looking forward enough. Generally Liverpool’s use of the ball has been sloppy so far, which is why Manchester United have seen so much of it.

What I like about United is that they are packing a punch whenever they get possession - they are trying to get forward as well. It definitely suits Paul Pogba to have Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera behind him.

You can hear more from Martin on MOTD2 at 22:45 BST on BBC One and the BBC Sport website (23:15-00:15, BBC One NI & BBC Two Wales).

Mourinho will be the happier manager. They have silenced the crowd and are keeping the ball.

They haven't created chances but they have had the possession and Fellaini and Herrera are dictating the midfield battle.

Luke: Why does Mourinho persist with Ibra? The top sides would have dropped him by now as he is utterly ineffective.

Tommy-T-rex: Words for this game. Tactical. Tense. Tedious. Come on guys liven up.

Rae: Liverpool v Man U - Mourinho may be a successful manager but will never be popular, he is negative and regressive in football terms

It seems Manchester United are having more possession but it appears not...

Emre Can then shoots horribly over from way out. Ironic cheers all round.

Ander Herrera spreads the play with a great touch out wide, Daley Blind has a bit of space but then wallops a rubbish cross out of play behind the goal. That's a real waste.

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Manchester United keeping the ball so easily at the moment, the famous Liverpool pressing game is nowhere to be seen.

Ander Herrera is the best player on the park.

He is winning second balls and is instrumental.

It is not happening for Liverpool at the minute.

Manchester United have, so far at least, not allowed Liverpool to build up the head of steam that has troubled so many teams this season.

Jurgen Klopp is out of his seat in the technical area and waving his players forward. There is too much football being played in the Liverpool half for his liking.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has a long-range shot deflected into the hands of Loris Karius, an easy save but it's enough to get Jurgen Klopp into full Klopp mode, cajoling and gesticulating loudly to his players. Liverpool not at the races yet.

Pogba and Ibrahimovic are linking up well, playing one-twos.

It has been a positive start from Man United, Liverpool haven't really got going.

United are winning all of the second balls.

Paul Pogba is definitely playing much further forward than normal and he's starting to become an influence, playing a one-two with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and seeing a shot well blocked.

Ricology: A typical Mourinho performance. Just throw bodies behind the ball & make sure not to lose then counter attack & clinch a goal

Ben Rabinovich: So far it's just been a very aggressive game of pin-ball.
