Southampton midfielder Nathan Redmond speaking to BBC Sport:

"It's a good result. The mentality we have is that we want to get as many points from as many games as we can. We'll take the point and take it as a positive. The coach [Claude Puel] made us do high pressing in the week. 

"When a new manager comes in it's difficult. It's about learning a new style of play. It's like me in a new position, it's not going to work overnight."

Manchester United have had a couple of half-chances, but Chelsea have dominated from the start. Awful defending. Chris Smalling has had a day to forget and Chelsea are cruising.

Southampton

Southampton manager Claude Puel, speaking to Sky Sports: "I am satisfied and happy for my players. We defended well. It is an interesting point, we can see a good solidarity for our team, good spirit and good organisation. 

"We played with just two days recovery after the Inter Milan match, which is difficult and we finished the game tired. It is a good point."

And Chelsea almost get a third right on half-time as Diego Costa shrugs off Eric Bailly and flashes in a shot, but Bailly does well to recover and make the block! 

Manchester United end the half with a long period of passing but three Antonio Valencia crosses - seemingly their only route to goal at the moment - are cut out before Marcus Rashford miscues a shot high over the crossbar. 

Diego Costa threatens to embarrass Chris Smalling as he turns him on the edge of the box but the skipper just gets a foot in. At the other end Zlatan Ibrahimovic tries to conjure something but can't.

You could single out nearly anyone in red but Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba have been anonymous. 

Sushant Shetty: Bring Carrick on for Pogba. Mata for Lingard and Martial for Ibra. Needs pace and composure this #mufc team.

Big hair, big collision. David Luiz is booked for a high foot on Marouane Fellaini, Chelsea captain for the day Gary Cahill is only interested in pointing out countless other fouls which he thinks should have been bookings.

On second viewing that was a bad one - studs into the kneecap. Ouch.

Better passing from United ends with a good cross from the right - but Victor Moses makes a powerful header at the far post. 

Marcus Rashford then shanks a pass out of play. Rubbish. 

Daley Blind a bit fortunate not to get booked for clattering Pedro - Blind has had a torrid first half.

Jose Mourinho will have to change his tactics, maybe his formation at half-time. Manchester United are so far off at the moment, Chelsea are dominating at a canter. 

Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Sport:

"The second half was much better. The first half wasn't really good. Of course our mistake is always complicated. The way I want to play is not to pass to their striker." 

On the second-half recovery: "They did it for themselves in the second half. They changed the game, I didn't change the game. We did think we were going to win it, but Southampton didn't make it easy. They have good defenders and are good at everything."

Happy with the displays in the winless last five games: "We have to analyse what is the situation. In the period, apart from at White Hart Lane against Tottenham [losing 2-0] it's been good. Against Everton and Barcelona - when it was 11 v 11 -  the displays were as good as those in the first 10 games."

Manchester United played on Thursday night, and it shows so far. Only five of the XI out there started against Fenerbahce though so they can't use that as an excuse. Chelsea just look fresher, fitter, stronger.

The teams are playing like their managers at the moment. Chelsea high tempo while United are like statues.
