Diego Costa has barely had a sniff, other that one low drive in the first half and then lurking with intent a couple of moments ago. In fact, he's only made seven passes so far. That's two fewer than Fraser Forster...

Chelsea click into gear and almost create another chance.

N'Golo Kante sweeps a wonderful cross-field pass to Marcos Alonso, finding his intended target with the precision of an expensive sat nav. The Spaniard drills a teasing cross across the Saints goal towards Diego Costa, Jose Fonte needing to glance it wide.

Quality defending. Had own-goal nightmare written all over it.

Saints start straight on the front foot. Ryan Bertrand pings in a inswinging cross from the left, David Luiz acrobatically hooks clear.

  7. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

    Southampton 0-1 Chelsea

Ref Mike Jones does a quick head count, then fiddles about with his watch. A quick toot of the whistle seconds later tells Charlie Austin to get the game restarted.

  8. Invincible Man Citypublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

    Man City 1-1 Birmingham

Women's Super League champions Manchester City came back from behind to draw with Birmingham City and ensure they ended the league season unbeaten.

They trailed early on at home when  Aoife Mannion slotted a penalty. It was just the fourth goal they have conceded in 16 league matches but they responded and Demi Stokes scored direct from a left-wing cross.

  9. Can Southampton turn possession into goals?published at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

    Southampton 0-1 Chelsea

Keith Vincent-Hill: Southampton dominating this game on every stat, Chelsea ahead on the only one that counts though! Anyone's game.

Jon Connor: Chelsea need another to give themselves a buffer, never happy sitting on a solitary goal.

Stephen K Williams: Possession doesn't guarantee goals, ask United.

Matt Penny: So far so good. Probably looked more dangerous is our 2% possession than Saints did in their 98%.

  10. 'Very difficult' for Southamptonpublished at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

Former Arsenal striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

When you look at the attacking prowess of Chelsea, and then they're defending like that - then it's very difficult.

    Southampton 0-1 Chelsea

Southampton are staking their claim for this season's 'Best Half-time Entertainment in the Premier League' award.

Four fans are each stood inside huge inflatable globes trying to push each other out of the way. Think 'Atlaspheres' in 1990s TV classic Gladiators (ask your mum or dad if you're too young to remember it). Maybe they should bring John Fashanu in to compere.

  12. Southampton 'can't go all in' to attackpublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

    Southampton 0-1 Chelsea

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live

It’s the age-old problem for Southampton – how do you break down a mass defence?

You can’t be all in to go attack because if it breaks down you have to think about how quick they’ll counter-attack.

    Possession? Pah.

    Southampton 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea lead through Eden Hazard's opener then, meaning they are well on course to move back into the top four at Tottenham's expense.

Thoughts on that half? I think it was an excellent counter-attacking display from the away team. Organised, energetic and a threat on the break.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:47 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

    Southampton 0-1 Chelsea

That additional 60 seconds passes by without major incident. Chelsea's defence holds its line to deal with a Saints free-kick hoisted into the box. Charlie Austin sticks his head on the ball but, under pressure from N'Golo Kante, can't direct it. And that is that. Time for a half-time cuppa.

Ref Mike Jones gives the home side a corner that was never a corner, then toots his whistle as soon as the ball is swept in. There wasn't much going on in the box. Perhaps he had realised his earlier error...

  18. Hazard 'one of the best in the world'published at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

    Southampton 0-1 Chelsea

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Hazard looks fantastic in this role. He’s got no real job defensively other than to get back in position, but when they let him go...

He’s one of the best players in the world at it.

Chelsea might have had fewer touches of the ball, but they have created the better chances. The perfect away performance so far.

Chance. And it falls to Chelsea. Nemanja Matic picks the pocket of Jordy Clasie with more guile than the Artful Dodger, slipping in a perfectly-weighted pass to Diego Costa. He takes a touch then shoots low from 15 yards towards the bottom right corner. Fraser Forster's long legs save the day.
