Hazard showing signs of the form which helped him scoop the PFA Player of the Year award the season before last??

Warning signs there for Saints. Too many men forward and they could be stung on the break. Risk and reward.

But then Chelsea spring forward. No need for a key under the plant pot as Saints leave the back door unlocked. Eden Hazard glides down the left, pinging a cross field pass towards Pedro. He's shanked it! Pedro would have been clean through. Instead it finds the slightly deeper Victor Moses, who shoots over the bar from distance.

Chelsea are being forced into having a back five at the moment. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso are tucking in beside their three centre-halves as they try to keep Saints out.

You know it is a backs-to-the-wall job when Diego Costa is back mucking in defensively. The Chelsea striker heads out a Southampton corner, who can't make a couple of set plays count.

Enjoyable watch this. Not many shots at goal - in fact, Hazard's goal is the only one - but there is high energy and plenty of endeavour from both teams.

It’s a pretty tactical game. Chelsea have scored early which has somewhat changed the complexion of it.

Chelsea will be happy so far – it’s a tough place to come. They’ll look to make it difficult for Southampton now, negate any chances they get and then counter-attack.

Antonio Conte is his usual animated self on the touchline. The Chelsea boss is barking out orders and moving his arms around with more velocity than a windmill. Still all Southampton.

Again Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk - those skyscrapers of Saints centre-halves - jog forward for the set-piece. Van Dijk sticks a glancing head on the initial delivery, Chelsea fail to clear properly, before Jose Fonte heads wide under pressure from David Luiz at the far post when the ball comes back in.

The men in blue finally enjoy a spell of possession inside the Saints half. But that comes to an abrupt end when N'Golo Kante clatters Nathan Redmond. That allows Saints to stick the ball forward and eventually win a corner...

This is a proper game of football this is - both teams shutting the ball down, working hard. Some really great play to get out of tight areas.

It’s very much a case of containment for Chelsea. They’re not going to take too many risks in possession.

Now it’s whether Southampton can shift them around to create that chance to get them back into the game.
