There are not too many managers who can use the phrase 'living the dream' and keep a straight face. But Brendan Rodgers is in the top one.

"My intention is to be here as long as I can, to help the club grow," the Celtic boss said on Monday.

"The most important thing for me is to be happy," added the 43-year-old Northern Irishman. "It is about enjoying my life. I am living the dream."

Always nice to see a man enjoying his work.

Nothing on the line in the context of qualification here tonight but don't tell that to the likes of Pablo Maffeo and Tosin Adarabioyo, who will be wanting to state their case to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

As for Celtic, the hackles of any Scottish champions always rise on English soil and they will not worry that this is an under-strength City team, they will want to head back north of the border with a morale-boosting victory to talk about.

And judging by the sight of thousands of Celtic fans in Manchester to support their side, they think there is plenty to go at as well.

Manchester City v Celtic (19:45 GMT)

Tonight is the 42nd time that a club side from England has faced one from Scotland in European competition.*

English sides are on top - but not by much.

The record so far is 15 wins to English clubs, 15 draws and 11 wins for the Scottish clubs.

Celtic have won three times south of the border. They beat Leeds at Elland Road in the 1971 European Cup, beat Blackburn at Ewood in the 2003 Uefa Cup and later in the same campaign won at Anfield too.

In a rare bit of homework, I went through Manchester City's entire European back catalogue to see who their youngest goalscorers in Europe have been.

Kelechi Iheanacho, who starts tonight, was 19 when he found the net against Borussia Monchengladbach earlier this season.

Ian Bowyer was 18 when he scored against Athletic Bilbao in City's European Cup Winners' Cup second round tie in 1969.

But pride of place goes to defender Tony Towers, who was only 17 when he scored the only goal over two legs against Academica Coimbra in the quarter-finals of the same competition.

At 16, Phil Foden would beat them all if he scores.

A youthful Manchester City line-up tonight, including a couple of 19-year-olds in central defence and a 20-year-old in attack.

There are experienced options on the bench but if Pep Guardiola's side happen to be leading comfortably heading into the final stages, look out for City's number 80, Phil Foden being introduced.

Foden, an England Under-17 international, hails from Stockport. If he comes on he will be the youngest player in the club's history to take part in European competition at 16 years and 192 days.

Man City v Celtic (19:45 GMT)

    Manchester City

All change for Manchester City as Pep Guardiola names a barely-recognisable starting XI.

Teenage defender Tosin Adarabioyo makes his second Blues start, while 16-year-old midfielder Phil Foden is named on the bench.

Guardiola also names THREE recognised right-backs in his side, Bacary Sagna likely to start in central defence with Pablo Zabaleta in a holding midfield role.

Celtic make one switch from their weekend win at Motherwell as defender Erik Sviatchenko returns from injury.

Former Blues centre-back Kolo Toure drops to the bench, where he will be sat alongside returning Scotland forward Leigh Griffiths.

Man City XI: Caballero, Maffeo, Sagna, Adarabioyo, Clichy, Fernando, Zabaleta, Sane, Gundogan, Nolito, Iheanacho.

Celtic XI: Gordon, Lustig, Simunovic, Sviatchenko, Izaguirre, Armstrong, Brown, Rogic, Roberts, Forrest, Dembele.

    Basel v Arsenal (19:45 GMT)

    Arsenal

Arsenal have a chance, albeit a slim chance, of topping the group, with their team selection a little betwixt and between.

Arsene Wenger makes six changes to the side that beat West Ham 5-1 on Saturday but Alexis Sanchez, a prime candidate for a rest, is included in the starting XI.

However, 21-year-old defender Rob Holding, not seen in a Premier League game since August, is one of those rotated in.

Arsenal XI: Ospina, Gabriel, Holding, Koscielny, Gibbs, Xhaka, Ramsey, Iwobi, Ozil, Lucas, Alexis.

Basel XI: Vaclik, Traore, Lang, Serey Die, Delgado, Steffen, Suchy, Janko, Balanta, Elyounoussi, Xhaka

  13. Drama in Group Bpublished at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

So, in three out of four of the groups involved in tonight's action, those progressing to the next round have already been decided.

But in Group B, the situation is a lot messier.

Benfica host Napoli, while Besiktas travel to Dynamo Kiev, with all except the latter hoping to qualify.

We'll be keeping an eye on that one throughout the night...

Fernandinho was sent off in the melee that followed Sergio Aguero's challenge on David Luiz at the weekend, bringing the number of City red cards this season to six. The Brazilian is banned tonight as well following his (soft) dismissal in the 1-1 draw at Borrusia Monchengladbach last time out.

However, boss Pep Guardiola has dismissed any suggestion that his side has a discipline problem.

"The referees, I don't talk about. It is better that way. We are the best team with ball possession and with most red cards," said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.

"It is a pity what happened in the last minute and of course we are going to accept the ban from the FA. We are going to work with other players for the next games."

Celtic have nothing to play for in terms of this group - they are already out and have no chance of Europa League football - but they will want to show the improvements they have made throughout this Champions League campaign and the home of one of the English Premier League superpowers is the perfect place to do it.

Manager Brendan Rodgers makes one change from the dramatic 4-3 win at Motherwell at the weekend, Erik Sviatchenko coming in for Kolo Toure.

Celtic will finish bottom of the group in their first Champions League group campaign since 2013-14, missing out on a Europa League place.

The highlight for the runaway Scottish Premiership leaders was a 3-3 draw with City at Celtic Park in September, while another point was picked up away to Monchengladbach.

"We're disappointed not to have brought it down to last game but I'm proud of the players and how they have taken on the challenge of such a difficult group," said manager Brendan Rodgers.

"Hopefully we've shown that we've improved as the games have gone on.

"I don't see it as an end, it's another opportunity for us to learn and to take that experience into next season's competition."
