  1. What the managers saypublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Sunderland v West Brom (15:00 BST)

Manager David Moyes on Sunderland's league position: "It matters all the time, to be honest. I'm taking notice of it, but I'm trying not to look at it, if that makes any sense at all."

West Brom head coach Tony Pulis on Moyes: "I've a lot of respect for David and he's joined a club that has to fight and scrap and work hard to get the points that's needed to maintain Premier League status.

"I don't think he had that at Everton at all. He built and put in place a club that was looking more at (the) top six than bottom six so this is a new experience for him, but he's a top man, a top football manager and I'm sure he'll get through it."

Tony Pulis has avoided defeat in his last six Premier League matches against Sunderland (W1 D5), keeping five clean sheets.

However, Pulis' teams have failed to score in six of their last eight top-flight meetings with Sunderland (two scored in total).

The last two instances of Sunderland at home to WBA have finished 0-0; only twice before has an exact PL fixture ended 0-0 in three consecutive occasions (Aston Villa at home to Coventry & Middlesbrough at home to Leeds).

  8. Wenger and Pochettino not ruling out Englandpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Who will be the next England manager?

If the Football Association are tempted to go down the appointing-a-foreigner route again, then there are a couple of stand-out (and seemingly willing) names who they might try to tempt.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and Tottenham counterpart Mauricio Pochettino both say they are open to managing England in the future.

Asked about taking the job, 66-year-old Frenchman Wenger, said: "One day, if I'm free, why not?"

And Pochettino was equally unambiguous: "Yes, why not? In the future," said the 44-year-old Argentine.

  9. Who next for England?published at 13:38 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

In a very unexpected twist to the season, the England manager's job has become available again.

Sam Allardyce left the role by "mutual agreement" on Tuesday after a newspaper investigation claiming he offered advice on how to "get around" rules on player transfers, having been appointed by the Football Associationonly two months ago.

England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate will take charge of the national team for the next four games, on an interim basis.

  11. Time to get a shift onpublished at 13:30

With two of the bottom three in action, at home, this afternoon, and six of the bottom seven, it's high time the early-season strugglers got their season into gear.

It's a new month for Sunderland, which is good news as they never win in August or September, while West Ham will be hoping to end their poor run of results at their new gaff.

Can those who have made a poor start find their feet?

Will that upcoming international break, and the spectre of a first managerial axing of the season, make a difference?

Or will it be more misery across the board?
