Wahbi Khazri earns himself a borderline standing ovation from the Sunderland fans for closing down the West Brom back four and harrying them into a mistake. You can't fault either side for effort so far. It just needs a spark from somewhere.

Jordan Rhodes has hardly had a sniff on his Premier League debut. But the Boro striker doesn't need many touches to make an impact. Just ask Champo defences. His one touch in the Hammers box is a glancing header which Adrian watches go harmlessly past his left-hand box.

Victor Moses has been a tricky character for Chelsea in these opening stages and goes down in a tiger sandwich. The home fans have a collective intake of breath - but there's nothing given. 

Jermain Defoe is again close to the opener as he swings and misses at a corner, the ball had ping-ponged its way off the calves of Craig Dawson. 

This game is challenging Hapoel Be'er Sheva 0-0 Southampton for the worst game of football we've seen this week. More tepid than bath water that has been there for an hour.

If one man is going to get West Ham going it is Dimitri Payet. And here he pops up twice in quick succession. First the Frenchman's cross-shot is blocked by Calum Chambers, then he curls just past the right-hand post after cutting inside. Is today the day we see Payet hitting the same heights as last season?

West Ham fans started the game in fine voice, although that will soon change if Middlesbrough go ahead. And they almost do! Viktor Fischer - the summer signing from Ajax - is yet to bag for Boro but he won't go much closer than this. The Dane fires across the far post from a tight angle.

Victor Moses has four Hull men around him and he tries to beat the lot with a jinking run, he gets past two but is eventually crowded out.

It's not been a vintage start to the day's play.

West Brom have a new dimension to their play in Nacer Chadli, and the former Tottenham man goes close to the day's first goal. He collects a cutback from the right, swivels to lash in hard and low and Jordan Pickford makes a good save. Sunderland's back four then make a right hash of clearing their lines but they just about get it clear...

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri is celebrating his 55th birthday today. I think we know what present he is hoping for today. Three points and a few goals. No sign yet of his team managing that though, other than that earlier Odion Ighalo chance. Quiet start.

The Hammers have been disrupted by that early change. Boro find their stride, pinging the ball around confidently in midfield. Stewart Downing - against his former club - tries to pick out Cristhian Stuani with a diag but he overcooks it.
