Game of the day? Top play second in League One with Bury hosting table-topping Scunthorpe at Gigg Lane.

A win would put the Shakers on top, while third-placed Bradford - who are still unbeaten - could also end the day on top with a heavy win at Chesterfield.

Northampton have continued where they left off last season and start the day in fourth place, they host Bristol Rovers.

At the bottom. Coventry begin life without Tony Mowbray at Port Vale. Can they find that elusive first win of the season?

West Ham v Middlesbrough (15:00 BST)

    Jonathan Pearce

West Ham's new home seems badly disconnected with their fans, and their season is desperate on all fronts.

They've lost five of their opening six league games of a season for the first time ever. They are reportedly investigating claims that players were drunk this week. Their signing of Enner Valencia may now face probes after the Sam Allardyce allegations.

Boro also look troubled. Three defeats on the spin, just five shots on target away and only two wins in 22 trips to London. The Hammers need a redemptive win to calm concerns but it's crucial for both sides.

West Ham v Middlesbrough (15:00 BST)

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic makes four changes from the team beaten by Southampton last time out. Right-back Sam Byram, centre-back James Collins, midfielder Pedro Obiang and winger Gokhan Tore replace Havard Nordtveit, Alvaro Arbeloa, Manuel Lanzini and Simone Zaza.

No striker? So Michail Antonio may continue his utility man role by going up top.

West Ham XI: Adrian, Byram, Reid, Collins, Ogbonna, Kouyate, Noble, Obiang, Antonio, Tore, Payet.

You'd expect a few heads to roll after a 5-1 thumping - and that is exactly what has happened for Hull City.

Caretaker manager Mike Phelan makes three changes from the team which started at Liverpool, as striker Dieumerci Mbokani, midfielder Markus Henriksen and makeshift right-back David Meyler all come into the side.

Out go Abel Hernandez, Tom Huddlestone and the suspended Ahmed Elmohamady.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte might also have been tempted to drop several players after their 3-0 beating at Arsenal. Instead he only makes two changes.

Branislav Ivanovic - so long a mainstay in the Blues defence - is dropped for left-back Marcos Alonso, who makes his first start since a £23m move from Fiorentina.

Victor Moses also comes in for a rare start, with Cesc Fabregas making way.

    Watford v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

    Steve Wilson
    Match of the Day commentator

As Eddie Howe again finds himself talking about the possibility of being an England manager of the future, a visit to Vicarage Road will rake up some unpleasant memories from the past.

It's only three years since a Bournemouth side containing seven contenders for a starting berth on Saturday were thrashed 6-1 on Watford soil - Howe's heaviest ever defeat as a manager.

Watford's Troy Deeney bagged a hat-trick that day - he needs only two more goals to become just the fifth Watford player to reach a century of goals for the club.

Watford were so poor at Burnley on Monday that some reaction is surely guaranteed - if not, Howe's side could be set fair for a first away win since April.

  19. 'Defeat is unthinkable for Chelsea'published at 14:03 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Hull v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

    Martin Fisher
    Match of the Day commentator

The harsh realities of life back in the Premier League have come crashing down on Hull, overwhelmed by both Arsenal and Liverpool, shipping nine goals in the process.

Chelsea have been well beaten by that pair themselves in recent weeks, halting early encouraging signs that Antonio Conte wouldn't take long to sort out last season's mess.

A win at the KCOM Stadium will put them back on track. Defeat is almost unthinkable, especially as they've only lost four times to Hull in their history.

But if Mike Phelan's men can rediscover their early season form it could be another uncomfortable afternoon for Conte.
