In case you missed it, Manchester City began their first Women's Champions League campaign this evening with a 2-0 home win over Zvezda 2005.

England midfielder Jill Scott stabbed the new English champions into a first-half lead at the Academy Stadium in their last-32 first leg.

Scott then clipped the inside of the post after half-time, before Lucy Bronze added a late second with a strike from the edge of the area.

The Russian league runners-up host the second leg on 12 October.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill: "I expected Georgia to run us close. If they had a natural goalscorer in their team they could cause teams lots of problems. It was very difficult indeed, they had by miles the better of the first half and then we came into it.

"Seamus Coleman came up with a wonder run and a goal.

"The players have a great desire to do well. We needed a spark at half time and they got themselves going. We can play much better than that."

Wales manager Chris Coleman: "We have to be honest and say we'll take that point tonight. It wasn't our best performance, we know that but Austria are a very good team at home. To take three points we needed to be at our very best in every department but we weren't. We found a way though, by hook or by crook, and we rode our luck at times.

"If you can get something when you are not at your best it is a good sign. We made trouble for ourselves, that's not like us. We can play a lot better but we can't fight any harder than that. They never shied away from a challenge.

"The long throw was working! They were nervous every time. There are all sorts of ways to score a goal you know."

In this particular group, I don't think Wales can afford to drop any points in their home games. It's too tight. Six points from our next two games would be fantastic taking us into the new year.

Wales forward Gareth Bale: "This is a very difficult place to come but we ground out a 2-2 draw. Austria will beat a lot of teams here, a point is positive.

"Our home form is important, we need to win there now."

The game fizzled out a little bit in the second half, Wales were just happy to get the draw. Gareth Bale was quiet, but unfortunately he can’t take those long throws and be on the end of them to flick them on as well. He’s had one of his quieter nights, hopefully he’s saving it for Saturday.

Who tops the groups after two games then?

Wales top Group D on goal difference, Albania top Group G and Croatia are top of Group I.

It’s a good point, it’s a difficult night in Austria. Saying that Wales took the lead twice and were pegged back twice. Austria were really good going forward, but Wales defended well. This is a very difficult group to top, so it’s a very good point on the road.

The Republic so close to sealing the win as Jon Walters' cross is met by James McClean, thumping header off the underside of the crossbar and it's cleared!
