Michael Coyle: The number 7 shirt is sacred on most teams & reserved for the team superstar. In Ireland, we give it to a Brighton centre half.

We're not happy about that either Michael...

    Austria 0-0 Wales

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Robert Almer has done incredibly well, it’s almost behind him when he gets his palm to it and just manages to push it over the bar. It’s an unbelievable save.

It just goes to show the importance of a world-class goalkeeper, he had nothing to do in the first 10 minutes, then he comes up in the big moments.

Not much goal action to report in Dublin, but the Republic did have a half-hearted penalty appeal waved away when Shane Long appeared to be wiped out off the ball.

You will not see a better save right throughout these qualifiers, what an unbelievable hand!

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:55 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 0-0 Wales

What a save! Wales win their own corner, it's cleared out to Ben Davies about 20 yards out, he smashes in a volley and Gareth Bale meets it with a header from eight yards out.

Austria keeper Robert Almer reaches out, gets his left hand to it and somehow manages to push it over the bar from almost on the line! A really super save.

  6. CLOSE!published at 19:53 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 0-0 Wales

First chance of the night comes for Austria as David Alaba whips in a corner with his left foot, Spurs defender Kevin Wimmer gets across his marker to flash in a header but Wayne Hennessey is well placed to make the comfortable stop.

  7. "I never want to see that kit again"published at 19:52 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 0-0 Wales

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at Ernst Happel Stadion

Wales have lost all three of the matches they have played in the grey away kit they are sporting tonight.

But players wouldn't let a quirk like that affect them, right?

Well, according to Chris Coleman, Wales' players do have an issue with their unlucky grey shirts.

As for the manager himself? He says he would be glad if he "never saw that kit again".

  8. Austria go longpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 0-0 Wales

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Just looking at the early exchanges, Austria look happy to go long to Janko, who by the way is towering over the Wales back three. So it’s important that Wales are lively around the second ball.

The hosts are not afraid to go direct to massive targetman Marc Janko at all times, he is going to prove a right handful for Ashley Williams and co tonight.

If you are wondering where Leicester left-back Christian Fuchs is tonight, he retired from international football after the Euros.

  10. 'Unlucky' grey kit?published at 19:49 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 0-0 Wales

Like Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United at the Dell, Wales are in a grey kit which they don't particularly like tonight. Wales lost to England and Portugal in this outfit at the Euros and they would prefer to be in red. But it is what it is.

Richard: Wales are capable of winning this but a point, away, to the second best team in the group will be a good night's work.

That's all well and good Richard, but there's no space for cool heads after the fire of the Euros...

Austria have never lost at home to Wales, and the only time Wales have avoided defeat in Austria was in April 1992, as Chris Coleman equalised  in a 1-1 draw.
