That’s a good save from Wayne Hennessey, low down to his right. It was a really good strike, but an equally good save.

  2. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Georgia

How has that stayed out? Georgia rattle the Irish woodwork twice in a few seconds, first smashing the crossbar and then a header looping over Darren Randolph and Seamus Coleman and against the inside of the post!

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:22 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 1-1 Wales

Good stop Wayne Hennessey! Austrian tails are up now as Marko Arnautovic causes havoc on the left before cutting it back to Zlatko Junuzovic on the edge of the area. His drive is hard and low, and it bounces just in front of the keeper too. Hennessey stays switched on to push it away.

    Austria 1-1 Wales

You have to say Austria deserve their equaliser - they've been on the front foot for much of the half (below left, Wales below right).

Austria's vociferous fans were not silent for long. The Ernst Happel Stadion is bouncing again.

Marko Arnautovic's equaliser came from a fine dinked pass from David Alaba - but Wales' marking seemed a little slack.

Bouncing in Vienna now, that goal has kicked the home fans into life. Marko Arnautovic skips past Chris Gunter again and can't get a shot off this time though.

  7. 'Lazy, poor defending from Gunter'published at 20:17 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 1-1 Wales

Now the crowd are up! I have to say it’s a wonderful pass from Alaba. Arnautovic just runs along the Wales line, timing his run to perfection, but Gunter has to go with him. It’s lazy, it’s poor defending. He has to follow his man. Chris Gunter you have to track your runner.

    Marko Arnautovic (28 mins)

It's raining goals by Stoke players! This is very soft as David Alaba flips a clever pass over the top, Marko Arnautovic has made a run past Chris Gunter and improvises cleverly to head a waist-high ball past Wayne Hennessey.

Arnautovic and co launch into a well choreographed dance routine.

    Italy 0-0 Spain

Spain should be in front. Sergio Ramos nods a ball back across goal where Gerard Pique gets in a header from six yards but sends it straight to keeper Gianluigi Buffon.

I was just about to write how the pace of the game had dipped considerably after a lively start - and then Joe Allen produces a moment of magic.

That is only his second goal in international football - and what a strike, a juicy, swerving half-volley from the edge of the area.

The Wales fans inside the Ernst Happel Stadion are going wild.

  12. 'What a strike'published at 20:11 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 0-1 Wales

    John Hartson

It’s that man Gareth Bale, the first time he gets a run at the Austrian defence he goes around his man like he isn’t there.

But Joe Allen, brilliant technique, Almer in goal has no chance. What a strike.

    Italy 0-0 Spain

It's all Spain, who have had 78.8% of possession so far. Andres Iniesta whips in a cross which Gerard Pique heads wide off an Italy defender.

Not too much of an attacking threat yet from the Italians (below left). They just can't get the ball.

GOAL - Austria 0-1 Walespublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Joe Allen (22 mins)

He cannot stop scoring! Two in two for Stoke, and now two in two for Wales as well for Joe Allen! It's a belter too.

Gareth Bale comes out to the left wing and delivers a testing cross, it's headed out to the edge of the area and Allen calls for it early. He runs on to it, left foot, on the bounce, bang! Flies into the far corner!

  15. Solid start for Walespublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 0-0 Wales

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Wales have shown good discipline so far tonight, Joe Ledley does an important job in front of the defence.

It’s going to take this type of discipline and defensive structure to keep Austria out tonight, but Austria are struggling so far.

Georgia have had 56% of the possession so far. It's been a slow start from the Republic.

    Austria 0-0 Wales

    John Hartson

The big thing for Chris Coleman is qualifying, you don’t want to rest on your laurels. We did brilliantly in the Euros, but that’s in the past. Now it’s all about qualifying for that World Cup.

  18. Postpublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Austria 0-0 Wales

Gareth Bale has been kept quiet so far by some close attention from his markers - but he will still be wondering how on earth his early header was kept out by Robert Almer.

The game is a bit flat at the moment. Not much going on.

  19. CLOSE!published at 20:02 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Georgia

Georgia very close to the opener as Valeri Kazaishvili spins inside the area and gets a shot off, it's deflected wide with Darren Randolph beaten. A huge let-off for the hosts.

  20. Postpublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Italy 0-0 Spain

It won't surprise you that Spain are dominating possession against Italy and La Roja create the first chance. Andres Iniesta plays a one-two with David Silva before failing to get enough power on a left-foot shot which is straight at keeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Elsewhere, Kosovo's first competitive "home" game in international football - it is actually being played in Albania - has not started well. They trail 1-0 to Croatia, Mario Mandzukic with the goal.
