  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

    England 1-0 Spain

Yellow card for Raheem Sterling after a nasty challenge on Aritz Aduriz. He can have no complaints about that one.

Moments later, the referee reaches into his pocket to book Inigo Martinez. He'd blocked Theo Walcott, who was looking to get away down the wing.

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Croatia

Croatia goalscorer Mario Mandzukic falls to the turf under a light challenge by the head-bandaged Chris Brunt. He went down easier than a Jenga tower.

By the way, the Juventus striker's scruffy opener is of some significance. It is his 29th international strike, moving him alongside former Arsenal man Eduardo da Silva in second place on Croatia's all-time top scorer list.

Who's above them? Only Davor Suker has bagged more with 45 goals.

Paul Thompson: Such a shame about Lallana's early exit. Should we expect England to go into their shell now? I'd bet my house on it...

Love of Football: Saying prayers as Walcott steps in for Lallana. Get on and come off with no injuries it's that time of the year

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Croatia

Got to beat the first man! A weak cross from a player under no pressure is one of the most frustrating things to see in professional football. Northern Ireland fans see it twice in quick succession. Lee Hodson and Josh Magennis are the culprits.

Decent response from the home side after Croatia's flukey opener, though. Don't deserve to be behind.

Adam Lallana disappears straight down the tunnel. That could be bad news for Liverpool as well. Such a shame after an excellent display.

Adam Lallana goes down injuredImage source, Reuters

Adam Lallana has been playing out of his skin, so seeing him down on the ground clutching his leg is not what we want to see.

It looks like a calf strain and he can't continue. Theo Walcott is on in his place.

    Big blow for England.

Spain will not change. They will not go direct. They will wait for that opportunity. They like to dominate the ball and have so much belief in possession. England have had one chance and scored from it. England are going to do a lot of chasing.

    England 1-0 Spain

Cesar Azpilicueta has had his pocket picked so often in the opening 20 minutes that even the inner lining has gone. He's struggling to stop England's attacks down the flank as Raheem Sterling races towards the byline. His cross is blocked, proving England with a change from a corner but it comes to nothing.

Not much to report from Milan where Italy are hosting world champions Germany. It's still goalless. Which probably suits Azzurri keeper Gianluigi Buffon on his landmark 167th cap - a joint European record with Spain's Iker Casillas.

The Juventus legend made his international debut when the Spice Girls were still zig-a-zig ahhing around the pop charts. That's how long ago it was.

Elsewhere, Sweden are winning 2-0 in Hungary, while Scandinavian neighbours Denmark are drawing 1-1 in the Czech Republic.

  12. Vardy in the actionpublished at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

    England 1-0 Spain

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

Lively start for Jamie Vardy - a horrible, wild tackle on Cesar Azpilicueta was followed by winning England's penalty after he was brought down by Pepe Reina.

The real star of the show so far has been Adam Lallana, with a lovely pass for Vardy and that cool penalty.

The Liverpool midfield man was England's best performer against Scotland and looks completely at home at this level. Good atmosphere inside Wembley.

    England 1-0 Spain

England are finding so much space when they attack. Jesse Lingard races onto a pass down the left but has to play it back as the Spanish defence gets into position. The attack switches to the other flank where Nathaniel Clyne has charged forward. His first touch gets away from him just outside the box and Spain clear.

    England 1-0 Spain

Spain regroup and put together a neat move that ends with Vitolo stabbing a shot just wide.

Both sides looking to get forward often, which is making for a nice open game at the moment.

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Croatia

Well that Croatia opener has well and truly pooped the party. Northern Ireland respond well though, Liam Boyce heading wide just after Josh Magennis's cross whistles over Niall McGinn's bonce. Magennis is getting plenty of joy down the right flank.

Alex Storey: That's a world class pass from Adam Lallana and a cool finish from the penalty too. He's developed into a superb player.

Peter Collins: Well that ain't a half bad start. Lallana is having a cracking season thus far, but surprised that Vardy didn't shoot!

    England 1-0 Spain

Adam Lallana is in great form at the moment for England and that really was an excellent ball. Inch perfect and left Pepe Reina with little option but to give away the penalty.

That's knocked Spain a bit now and they're leaving loads of gaps at the back.
