If we have got to wait another two weeks, what does that say about Gareth? Just give him the job. People say he is not qualified enough. We tried Capello, we tried Sven. Just give him the job. Stop messing about.

If, like Somerset Cricket here, you are not in the least bit fussed about international friendlies, then there's plenty of FA Cup action tonight.

Twelve first-round replays are taking place, including Swindon versus Eastleigh. The initial tie to place in front of the Match of the Day cameras, with the non-league side drawing 1-1 to earn a trip to the County Ground.

Absolutely everything went right for Jamie Vardy on the pitch last season.

The Leicester City striker banged in 28 goals in 48 appearances for club and country, at one stage scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games as he helped fire the Foxes to the Premier League title.

Since then, his form has tailed off dramatically and he has not scored in his last 14 games.

Tonight is his big chance to get the party started once again.

England have a decent record against Spain, winning 12 of their 24 meeting, but their recent form isn't so good. Their only win in their previous five games was a 1-0 victory at Wembley in 2011. Frank Lampard, standing in for John Terry as captain that day, got the goal.

With Wayne Rooney out because of a knee injury, Jordan Henderson captains the England side as Gareth Southgate makes three changes. Nathaniel Clyne comes in for Kyle Walker, while Jamie Vardy starts in attack, with Harry Kane missing through injury. Jesse Lingard gets his chance to impress out wide.

England XI: Hart; Clyne, Stones, Cahill, Rose, Dier, Henderson, Lingard, Lallana, Sterling, Vardy.

Sweeping changes for the Spanish. Manchester-based midfielders Juan Mata and David Silva are two of the survivors from the World Cup qualifying win over Macedonia, while ex-Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina comes in.

Spain XI: Reina, Carvajal, I Martinez, Nacho, Azpilicueta, Busquets, Mata, Thiago, Vitolo, Silva, Aduriz.

    Bizarre managerial methods

Got an injury? Rub cheese on it! That was what one football manager tried anyway...

From Pep Guardiola's sex ban to former Fulham boss Felix Magath treating his players with cheese, football managers can use some pretty odd methods as they look to try to get results.

Ever worked under a manager who has done some pretty strange things with the aim of improving players? If so, tell us about them!

    Pep GuardiolaImage source, Rex Features

Given his involvement with players for both teams, I wouldn't be surprised if Pep Guardiola has popped down south for the game.

In fact, several of those on show tonight might well owe their place in the national team to Guardiola's methods - including the more unusual ones.

According to Samir Nasri, he was able to get the best our of Lionel Messi by banning him from having sex after midnight.

Not quite sure how he would have gone about monitoring that...

It was a little empty there a little earlier, but a sell-out crowd is expected.

Like Northern Ireland, Croatia also reached the last 16 at Euro 2016. But tonight they are without a host of star names.

Luka Modric? Not being risked. Ivan Rakitic? Rested. Mateo Kovacic? Ankle bother. Dejan Lovren? Injured.

Nevertheless, boss Michael O'Neill says the visitors will still provide a tough test.

"Croatia are a top class European team and it’s great that we will be playing them at home," he says. "We have not played a home friendly against this quality of opposition for quite some time."

  17. End of year party?published at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

Is it fair to describe 2016 as an annus horribilis for England? Possibly. But there can be no arguing that Northern Ireland have enjoyed an annus mirabilis.

The Green and White Army have enjoyed their best period in a generation. Not only did they reach a first major tournament in 30 years, Michael O'Neill's men then advanced to the knockout stage at Euro 2016. Not bad for a side stuck in pot five for the qualifying draw.

And they have continued to ride that crest of a wave following France. Two successive 4-0 home wins mean Norn Iron have catapulted themselves into 2018 World Cup contention.

Tonight they hope to celebrate by seeing out the year in style. But Croatia are planning to ruin the fun, refusing to dance and nicking all the food. They are the potential party-poopers in Belfast.

Focus Forum: Can Southgate secure the England job with a win at Wembley?

He might not be the most glamorous option, but Gareth Southgate has hardly put a foot wrong since replacing Sam Allardyce on an interim basis.

The former Middlesbrough boss guided England to seven points from a possible nine in World Cup qualifying, and they lead Group F by two points following Friday's 3-0 win over Scotland.

So is he the right man for the job?

  20. You're hired?published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

Gareth Southgate's interview for the England job has been so long it's almost like he's a candidate on The Apprentice. In fact I'm a bit surprised, and a little disappointed, we haven't seen him racing around Camden Market trying to flog random bits of tat.

But after overseeing three games as interim England boss so far, Southgate is now at the final stage of the process - tonight's friendly against Spain.

Win, and win convincingly, and you'd imagine the job is his. Lose badly and the powers that be might think about looking elsewhere.

So will Southgate be hearing the words "your hired" later tonight?
