    Stoke 2-0 Burnley

    StokeImage source, Reuters

A day to remember for Marc Muniesa. The Stoke defender scored his first Premier League goal to seal a deserved home win against Burnley.

Striker Jonathan Walters put Stoke ahead with an exquisite finish, before Muniesa fired in a crisp low volley.

Burnley went close late on when Andre Gray's angled shot was parried by goalkeeper Lee Grant.

"We see ourselves as a top-10 club so we have to maintain these levels now," says Potters boss Mark Hughes.

    Sunderland 2-1 Leicester

Sunderland celebrate v LeicesterImage source, Getty Images

Things keep getting worse in the league at least for Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri.

He said "everything is wrong" with his side's title defence following a 2-1 defeat at Sunderland yesterday.

An own goal from Robert Huth and Jermain Defoe's eighth league goal of the season condemned Leicester to their seventh defeat this term.

"We did our best today, but it wasn't enough," said Ranieri, whose team is now just two points above the relegation zone.

Sunderland however climb to 17th and are a point from safety after their third win in four.

"We're much more of an attacking looking side now. We have got more options to attack and we have actually started to defend better," manager David Moyes said.

    Crystal Palace 3-0 Southampton

    Alan PardewImage source, PA

I doubt there was a more relieved man in the Premier League than Alan Pardew last night.

That's because his Crystal Palace side earned their first win in eight matches, two goals from Christian Benteke helping see off Southampton.

James Tomkins also prodded in as the Saints had a bad day at the office.

"When the pressure racks up in the Premier League it's hard but we got the balance right and we had some good attacking play," said Pards.

    Tottenham 5-0 Swansea

Tottenham had only won once in their last sixth games before yesterday but returned to form in fine style emphatically beating Swansea 5-0 at White Hart Lane.

Harry Kane scored twice in the week he signed a new long-term contract at the club while Christian Eriksen also scored a brace.

Kane's opener came from the penalty spot after midfielder Dele Alli appeared to dive in the box.

"I need to see it on TV to give my opinion. From my position it was impossible to see." Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said.

    West Brom 3-1 Watford

How are West Brom fans feeling this morning?

Pretty good I imagine. The Baggies are up to sixth in the Premier League after beating Watford 3-1 for a third win in four games.

Jonny Evans, Chris Brunt and Matt Phillips scored the goals for Tony Pulis' side while Roberto Pereyra was sent off for Watford in another fiery Premier League incident.

The Argentine reacted angrily to a James McClean challenge which resulted in both sets of players clashing on the touchline.

"You don't find many players like him. He can always surprise you."

Those were the words of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger after Alexis Sanchez's brilliant hat-trick in a 5-1 win against West Ham yesterday.

The Chilean set up Mesut Ozil for the Gunners' opening goal before scoring three of his own to send Arsenal second in the Premier League table.

West Ham on the other hand are 17th just one point above the relegation zone.

    Man City 1-3 Chelsea

The Premier League leaders at the pre-season title favourites. It promised plenty - and it delivered. Big time.

Manchester City led through Gary Cahill's comedy own goal but failed to kill off the visitors in the second half. And they were made to pay.

Diego Costa, Willian and Eden Hazard swung the game back in Chelsea's favour as they moved three points clear.

But the game was marred by an ugly brawl and two red cards in the final stages.

"It is a pity the game finished like this," Guardiola said.

Think Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer. Or, if you're a bit older, Graeme Le Saux and David Batty.

Now add Jermaine Beckford and Eoin Doyle to the list.

The Preston forwards had a real ding-dong in the latter stages of their team's 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday - and were both sent off!
