Was Moussa Sissoko lucky to stay on?

Burnely manager Sean Dyche: “It is very cruel. We were very good today. A lot has been made of our away form but first half we were excellent and in the second we were at least decent against a top side.

“I don’t want go on about the referee but Moussa Sissoko has to go off and he sets up the second goal - obviously I am very disappointed about that.

“They are a top-class side but we do need the rub of the green. My players' reaction to a clear sending off is he gets up. If he does 14 rolls then the ref is under pressure. It is a clear sending off in my opinion.

“It was a blind challenge, a high challenge and simply a red card.

“We are a work in progress. We have taken strides forward in the last couple of away games.”

    Tottenham 2-1 Burnley

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham full-back Danny Rose tells BBC Sport: "We started the game not to so well and Burnley deserved to go ahead. The manager told us to stay patient at half time and thankfully I finished off a good counter-attack.

"The gaffer does not like us both being high up the pitch at the same time but we changed that tactic today. Kyle got his assist and I got the goal. The manager got his tactics spot on.

"We were fully expecting a difficult game.If you don't match them for workrate, it will be a difficult afternoon. The result was fair."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger speaking to BBC Sport: "Of course I'm disappointed and frustrated.

"We had a very good first half. We got caught cold. Today we conceded two offside goals. It's difficult to accept. I believe there's a lot going on [regarding 'bad' refereeing decisions]. It's hard going into a game like that and you get decisions go against you. They are professional and we are professional and have to stand up for our mistakes.

"The first goal gave them a lot of hope. After that we suffered for 20 to 25 minutes. On Tuesday [in the 2-1 defeat against Everton] we suffered on set-pieces. Today we were unfortunate. What can you do about the offside goals?

"We were a bit jaded physically. We played four games from five away from home."

  9. 'It was a very difficult game'published at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2016

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino: "In the Premier League it is very hard to win games. Today we knew Burnley are a team that fights a lot, run a lot and every ball they are ready to challenge.

"The team played in a very good way and we fully deserved the victory. I am pleased for that. It was a very difficult game.

On Burnley’s goal which came through some poor Spurs defending, he said:

“It came from many unlucky actions. We gave the ball three times. It was a very strange goal. The most important thing is to always believe and fight to try and win the game."

On his side’s goals from Dele Alli and Danny Rose:

“They were great goals. I am pleased for that because to get three points was very important for us. We are fighting very close to top four and that is important."

And asked about Moussa Sissoko’s poor second half tackle:

“I didn’t see it. I don’t know if he touched him or not. The referee saw better than me."

    Manchester City 2-1 Arsenal

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola talking to BBC Sport: "I didn’t say anything to them at half time. I told them not to think about the score, I told them to keep going. Arsenal were lucky in the first half.

"It was similar to the game against Chelsea - then we played well and lost and today we won.

"The guys give everything in every game. I'm happy to be City coach. In terms of spirit it's always there.

"We liked to play today but it's not easy because of high pressing from Arsenal and they defend compact. When we have some of our players back we will hopefully score more goals."

Man City goalscorer Raheem Sterling on Sky Sports: "We dug in there, stayed in the game and we got the win in the end. It was very good to get on the scoresheet today. The most important thing was to get the win. I should have put the header away in the first half."

Man City midfielder Yaya Toure: "We became more and more aggressive and we dominated in the second half. The tactics and desire was there after the break. Arsenal are very dangerous on the counter. The defence did very well today. We have a fantastic striker like Raheem."
