  1. 'Everton's pressing has been incredible'published at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

It has taken Liverpool 30 minutes to get into the game properly, but they are looking better now.

They cannot change much about the way they play - they don’t have the option of going long like Everton to Romelu Lukaku for example, because the ball has been bouncing off Divock Origi.

Until now Everton’s pressing has been incredible - James McCarthy set the tempo and Enner Valencia and Aaron Lennon have followed him - but Liverpool’s technical ability and passing is starting to get them somewhere.

It was a great dummy from Georginio Wijnaldum and then it's Nathaniel Clyne down the right, squaring to the penalty spot. Divock Origi got in front of the defender - was it slightly behind him or did Funes Mori do enough?

    Everton 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool growing into the game more and more - and they should be ahead! The first real patient passing move sees Sadio Mane step over the ball and allow it to run into the path of Nathaniel Clyne, he looks up and finds Divock Origi arriving at pace and he can only fire into the crowd. A hurried finish to a flowing move.

The Everton fans boo loudly as they wanted a handball given at the other end but Mike Dean had no interest.

Until this moment I thought I knew an English breakfast inside out. You live and learn.

The game has gone off the boil a bit in the last few minutes to be honest. Jurgen Klopp won't mind that.

  7. 'Everton work-rate so impressive'published at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Everton 0-0 Liverpool

    Kevin Kilbane
    Former Everton winger

The most impressive thing about Everton so far is their work without the ball, it’s the best I’ve seen from them for a long time, from Aaron Lennon and Enner Valencia as well as the players behind them.

Everton have not created a clear chance yet but they are going direct to Romelu Lukaku whenever possible and he is so good at holding the ball up that they will think he will make something happen soon.

As for Liverpool, they have been quite poor so far - especially with their final ball. That is largely down to Everton forcing those mistakes.

    Liverpool fans are the sweetest.

Just to show there are no hard feelings, Reds supporters have brought along a banner to celebrate the 21 years since Everton last won a trophy.

For those who need reminding, it was the 1995 FA Cup final. A 1-0 win over Manchester United. Paul Rideout the scorer.

Liverpool's first shot of the night comes when Gini Wijnaldum takes a touch on the edge of the area and hammers a shot into the Gladwys. He was being harried and pressed though.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Goodison Park

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has done plenty of wild gesticulating at his players in this first 25 minutes. He clearly expects better from his side.

Everton counterpart Ronald Koeman, in a rather smart black overcoat, has remained very calm.

A proper 'English' game this. Like a breakfast with hash browns and mushrooms.

We've had loads of bad touches, hurried passes, high boots and crunching tackles.

Everton have been much, much the better side.

Great play from Ragnar Klavan. Romelu Lukaku tries to get in front of him but Klavan sticks out that long left leg and gets it away.

On second viewing that was brilliant defending from Ragnar Klavan to deny Romelu Lukaku. Sensational.

Everton are well ahead on points here, and their fans are in appreciative voice again when Aaron Lennon finds space on the left and crosses early - a definite ploy tonight - and Romelu Lukaku is close to meeting it.

Ross Barkley then shoots wide from 20 yards.

Everton have tinkered with a back three recently but it's their full-backs who are the outlet so far tonight. Seamus Coleman and then Leighton Baines deliver testing crosses into the area but Dejan Lovren clears both.

Is he getting back to his £20m best now?

Aggression is indeed the word. James McCarthy put in a rocket of a challenge on Ragnar Klavan just before that Enner Valencia free-kick, while I gather it was James Milner on the end of that burst of grief from Jurgen Klopp.

  20. 'Not much quality'published at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Everton 0-0 Liverpool

    Robbie Savage
Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

There's not much quality in the game. Adam Lallana, Firmino and Sadio Mane need to get on the ball for Liverpool. While there's not much quality there's aggression from Everton.
