A strong appeal for a penalty for PSG. Edinson Cavani chases a clever dink into the area from Angel di Maria and Marseille defender Rolando stretches out a toe to try to intercept. Cavani goes to ground under the contact, although the Uruguayan made such a meal of it that perhaps the referee felt he was trying to con him.

Are Real Madrid going to miss the chance to go top? If they don't score in the second half, the answer is yes.

Cristiano Ronaldo is so good, obviously, but he's so, so greedy. The Portuguese gets away from his defender and Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale are both waiting for a square ball which either of them would be confident of netting, but he shoots straight at the goalkeeper.

Moments after an Athletic break, Real Madrid have a chance but Dani Carvajal's effort is right at the keeper.

And now Gareth Bale's cross - after burning some defenders for pace - from the left somehow isn't converted by Karim Benzema or Cristiano Ronaldo.

This has been a really action-packed game, considering both sides played in Europe in midweek. Two minutes until the break.

This is more like it from PSG. Angel Di Maria curls a free-kick into the box for Edinson Cavani but the Uruguay striker is unable to direct his header on target. He lets off a scream in frustration. Moments later,  Serge Aurier cuts inside on to his left foot a drills a low shot at goal which Yohann Pele scrambles across goal to save. 

Marcelo almost finds Cristiano Ronaldo with a cross but highly rated Athletic defender Aymeric Laporte slides in to disturb the Portugal captain. A goal-saving tackle possibly.

A third of the way through the game and chances have been at a premium. PSG have dominated possession and seem in control without having much penetration in the final third. Marseille are happy to soak up pressure and hit on the break. 

Real Madrid are a bit shaky at the back, they're struggling to deal with crosses and a moment ago they let Inaki Williams have the ball and conceded a corner to stop him possibly scoring.

Xabier Etxeita was booked for fouling Isco in the incident which resulted in that free-kick.

Real Madrid have a free-kick from the left corner of the box and Cristiano Ronaldo has a shot, standard, and it hits the wall, also fairly standard. The other likely option was in the sky somewhere.

Real Madrid come charging forward and Gareth Bale tries to find Cristiano Ronaldo but his right-wing cross is parried clear by keeper Gorka Iraizoz. 

Not sure Ronaldo would have tried to find Bale if roles were reversed.

Marseille starting to get a bit of a foothold in the game now, although without really creating anything. Angel Di Maria goes close for PSG with a skiddy shot from distance but Marseille keeper Yohann Pele gathers safely.

After all that dominance, Athletic should be level. Inigo Lekue plays in a cross from the right and Sabin Merino gets his header all wrong, it's well over the bar. A big let-off.
