Rudi Garcia takes charge of Marseille for the first time at the Parc des Prince this evening and the 52-year-old is determined to restore some pride at the club.

L'OM finished 13th last season and Garcia is eager for the players to show plenty of passion playing for the shirt.

He said: "We're not favourites in the league, but I hope that this season we can please the fans, and I can look them in the eye and they can be certain that we will sweat for the shirt,

"We'll do everything to give the OM badge some of its shine back in France.

"I hope we'll qualify for Europe at the season's end, but it's a bit far away for the moment."

  2. Zizou excited by L'OM futurepublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

    PSG v Marseille (19:45 BST)

Former LA Dodgers owner Frank McCourt completed his takeover of Marseille last week.

McCourt bought L'OM from the widow of Franco-Swiss businessman Robert Louis-Dreyfus, who took ownership in 1997 but died in 2009.

Marseille-born Zinedine Zidane is a boyhood fan of the club and is excited by takeover and Rudi Garcia's appointment.

"He is arriving with a new project and a new coach," said the Real Madrid boss. "I hope we can see Marseille return to the top. The project is in place to hope for that."

  6. Zidane relieves pressure (for now)published at 19:04 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao (19:45 BST)

If there's one thing we can count on Real Madrid for, it's managers who are only ever a couple of games away from talk of the sack.

Zinedine Zidane won the Champions League five months into his top-flight managerial career, then won the opening six games of the season.

But four draws in a row - including against Villarreal and Borussia Dortmund - had apparently, and incredibly, put him under pressure.

However a 6-1 win at Real Betis and 5-1 success over Legia Warsaw should have quashed some of that.

He could do without dropping points against Athletic Bilbao today though if he wants to avoid some more stick.

It's early days in La Liga but there are indications we could have a really exciting title race on our hands again.

Barcelona went top of the table yesterday, Atletico Madrid could have gone back top today, but they lost to Sevilla - who did go to number one. Now it's Real Madrid's turn. Can they be the fourth team to top La Liga this weekend?
