Goals from Tom Lawrence and Luke Chambers helped Ipswich pick up just their second win in nine matches by beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough. 

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy:

"I'm very, very pleased, of course, with the performance and happier with the result. I thought we were excellent.

"As the game went on, we caught them on the break a number of times and didn't really make enough of it until we got the winner.

"I had no worry about my ability or my confidence in the players and they've backed that up today with a really good performance.

"That performance and result today reflects my time at Ipswich. That is more like my team and how I have been."

New Wigan manager Warren Joyce saw his side fall to a 3-0 defeat by Reading in his first game since replacing Gary Caldwell as Latics boss.

"I was under no illusions before I came in.

"The heartening thing was that the players didn't give up, that would be a bigger worry if I saw players giving up, hiding, not wanting to run and keep going when you're two or three down. I didn't think they did that.

"That gives you some hope and encouragement for the future. Without that you're looking around and are worried."

Aston Villa fell a goal behind to Blackburn early in the second-half, but two goals from Jonathan Kodjia helped them fight back to earn consecutive home wins for the first time in 18 months.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce:

"It proves just how difficult it has been for the club over the last 18 months. I think that is the difficulty we all face trying to turn this juggernaut of a club around in producing results. 

"We know we have a bit of quality at the top end of the pitch, but we have to address what the club has been through over the last couple of years.

"The new players have been caught up in what has been a difficult time for the whole club.

"It was a big test going behind and not playing well. Thankfully, we responded in the right manner and started looking like a team."

Ronaldo Vieira's 25-yard strike helped Leeds come from behind to beat Norwich 3-2 at Carrow Road and extend their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions.

Leeds head coach Garry Monk:

"It was a great strike from Ronny, a goal worthy of winning any game.

"We know we are not the finished article yet but we are making good progress, with a lot of young players in the group, when you consider we have only been here for four or five months, as have a lot of the players. 

"It is work in progress - and if everyone keeps working hard then we should keeping getting good results."

Norwich's 3-2 defeat by Leeds saw them drop to fifth in the table, 10 points behind leaders Newcastle and on a four-match winless run in the league.

Norwich manager Alex Neil:

"It's a difficult time, but three weeks ago we were top of the league. I don't think I have become a bad manager in three weeks and I don't think the players have become bad players in three weeks either. 

"Having said that I accept the buck stops with me - if we do well I get praised and if we are doing badly I get criticism, I fully accept that. 

"We just need to raise our game and turn this around. We need to start winning games, it's as simple as that."

Newcastle won their seventh consecutive Championship game with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Cardiff at St James' Park, but the hosts were unhappy after they felt referee Tony Harrington missed a handball in the build-up to the Welsh side's goal.

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez:

"We have to work hard even if we concede a goal that is not correct. I was not happy that we had to defend so much. But if a ref allows this situation you have to defend. 

"I would rather play passing football, getting goals. In football if you play well you will have chances to win games. Sometimes you can't because the opposition is aggressive and the ref allows this contact."

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock was also frustrated that his side were not awarded a late penalty:

"[Cardiff defender] Sean Morrison gets kicked in the face. I am so gutted at the penalty. [Aleksandar] Mitrovic mauls him down. At this level the officials should be educated better and know about the pull.

"To add salt the linesman gives the free-kick to them. They will go home and see it with their coaches next week and say 'oh yeah, I made a mistake'."

"A nice goal to start with but it's all about the three points. That victory and that goal are dedicated to Anthony Knockaert and his family."

Second goalscorer Jamie Murphy on Sky Sports: "Bristol City started well, so it's nice to come away with the win and everything is going well for us right now."

Four wins in four for Brighton who go five points clear of third place to secure their place in second in the Championship.

Two brilliant early goals from Steve Sidwell and Jamie Murphy did it. An evening to put behind them for Bristol City.

Jamie Murphy is a late name in the referee's notebook as he pushes Callum O'Dowda to the ground.

Nothing of note comes from the resulting free-kick and that about sums it up for Bristol City in this one. 

Last change for Brighton sees midfielder Solly March come on for a first appearance in almost a year since a serious knee injury.

A half shout for a penalty to Bristol City as substitute Aaron Wilbraham goes down under pressure from Shane Duffy.

Nothing given, but replays suggest he might have a reason to feel aggrieved. Wilbraham still chuntering away about it as play continues.

Brighton break forward once more and Jamie Murphy shows more trickery down the left.

Squares a ball inside to Tomer Hemed on the edge of the box, but his attempt to curl a left-foot shot into the top corner goes just wide.

Promising looking build-up play from Bristol City in and around the Brighton area ends with the man who scored the opening goal, Steve Sidwell, nipping in to dispossess Bobby Reid as he tried to pounce on Callum O'Dowda's chest down.
