Bolton are keeping up the pressure at the top of League One thanks to two goals from an unlikely source.

Defender David Wheater stabbed in his first goal since October from close range after Shrewsbury had failed to clear their lines, before drilling in a second less than five minutes later.

He'd scored just seven goals in 141 games before today. He's still got 60 minutes left for a hat-trick this afternoon.

It's deflected, but Danny Ward won't care as he doubles the Millers' lead at home to 23rd-placed Wigan.

    Preston 1-3 Leeds

    More goals at Deepdale.

Marnick Vermijl's well-worked goal got Preston back to 2-1, but Leeds have restored their two-goal advantage through Souleymane Doukara.

His shot went straight through goalkeeper Chris Maxwell at the near post. He'll feel he should have done better.

  4. goal

GOAL: Aston Villa 1-1 Burtonpublished at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2016

    Jamie Ward

Oh my word! Acrobatic. Clinical. Brilliant.

Jamie Ward is there with an excellent volley to give Burton Albion their first ever league goal against Aston Villa and they're delirious because they're level at Villa Park.

  8. New manager, same storypublished at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2016

    Bristol Rovers 1-0 Coventry

Not the start Russell Slade would have wanted as Coventry City boss, as he watches his Sky Blues side fall a goal behind at Bristol Rovers.

Peter Hartley has given the hosts the lead, heading in from very close range after City failed to defend a set-piece.

A loss today would be Coventry's seventh in succession in League One.

    Rotherham 1-0 Wigan

Rotherham, who have the lowest average possession of any side in the second tier so far this season prior to today, are seeing plenty of the ball at home to fellow-strugglers Wigan so far this afternoon.

The Millers are controlling the play and are in the lead thanks to Aimen Belaid's opener.

  10. Postpublished at 15:21 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2016

Reading 0-0 Norwich, Preston 0-1 Leeds

Alex Tettey has a shot for Norwich, but it is well held by Ali Al-Habsi.

Meanwhile, Leeds United are ahead at Preston thanks to Kemar Roofe's second goal for the club.

    Lee GregoryImage source, Rex Features

A goal at last in League One, Lee Gregory slotting in for Millwall to give the play-off chasing Lions the lead at home to struggling Swindon.

There have been chances at both ends at Valley Parade, where fourth-placed Bradford are taking on leaders Scunthorpe, but both goalkeepers have been up to the task so far.

  12. Postpublished at 15:18 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2016

    Aston Villa 1-0 Burton Albion

Sam Winnall has put Barnsley ahead at home to Blackburn, meaning the Tykes, Rotherham and Wolves have all taken early leads at home, but none of the second-tier away sides have scored yet.

Meanwhile, Steve Bruce's Aston Villa have also just taken the lead at home to Burton Albion thanks to Leandro Bacuna's header.

It remains 0-0 in the Championship games at Ipswich and Preston.

    Curtis WestonImage source, Empics

It's a bit tight at the bottom of League Two, with 18th-placed Morecambe and Cheltenham in 23rd separated by just three points.

The Robins won't be climbing out of the relegation zone this afternoon unless they improve quickly at home to Barnet, as Curtis Weston has given the visitors an early lead.

That's it as far as goals are concerned in the 15:00 GMT kick-offs, though perhaps we can't complain too much after Leyton Orient and Crawley combined to score five in the earlier fixture.

Meanwhile at Plymouth, both teams are now out on the field having seen kick-off pushed back 15 minutes.

    MK Dons 0-0 Charlton

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio London

Karl Robinson's main focus right now will be that he hasn't won yet as Charlton manager, most recently losing 3-1 to Millwall last Wednesday.

Victory at his old stomping ground today would certainly make him a very happy camper.

Despite leaving MK Dons in October, Karl Robinson can't seem to shake off the connection to his former club.

He came up against them twice in the FA Cup second round, and he's taken his Charlton team to Buckinghamshire for a League One fixture today.

It is goalless so far at Stadium:MK.

The visitors Nottingham Forest have started brightly at Huddersfield but there's a general lack of early goalmouth action across much of the Championship so far, except at Molineux.
