  1. League Two Updatepublished at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

Meanwhile in League Two, Friday football has found it's flow.

And the Hartlepool fans are the ones celebrating. Their team hasn't won in five league games, but they've got a 2-0 lead against Morecambe courtesy of Padraig Amond and Billy Paynter's penalty.

But Wycombe fans are on their feet too, and it's that man Scott Kashket, again.

He's netted 13 times in 14 appearances this season, and his side look well on the way to extending their nine-game unbeaten run away at Cheltenham.

    Newcastle United 1-0 Nottingham Forest

The hosts well and truly quick out of the blocks at St James' Park.

Forest shell-shocked a touch by that early Matt Ritchie goal, but Pajtim Kasami does have a go from distance for the visitors as they try to draw themselves back into it.

A quiet start in the other 19:45 GMT kick-off in the Championship at Portman Road.

No goals so far in Suffolk.

Meanwhile, teams are on their way out at Reading for the 20:00 GMT kick-off at the Madejski Stadium.

  4. League One Updatepublished at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

Our first goal of the night in League One goes to Rochdale, Ian Henderson with the shot from outside the box after only four minutes.

Rochdale survived an earlier pitch inspection and they've started well after a run of three wins in three games.

Shrewsbury, on the other hand, may be wishing for the fog to come back. They sit in the relegation zone and although victory tonight will see them move out of the drop zone, it hasn't been a good start...

  5. Teams are out...published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

    Yeovil 0-0 Portsmouth

Or are they? It's pretty hard to tell at Huish Park where Yeovil have kicked off against Portsmouth, we think.

First goal of the evening across the EFL comes at St James' Park and goes the way of Newcastle.

Matt Ritchie stands over a free-kick, which takes a huge deflection off the Forest wall and gives their goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic no chance to stop it.

  7. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

  8. Valiants pay tribute to Carragherpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

Port Vale will pay their respects to former captain Matt Carragher before kick-off against Chesterfield this evening.

Carragher passed away this week, aged 40.

A minute's applause will take place in memory of the defender, who made 221 appearances for the Valiants during a six-year stay at Vale Park.

  9. Tributes to Srnicekpublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest (19:45 GMT)

A poignant moment at St James' Park on the big screen before the sides step out of the tunnel with tributes to former goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek, who passed away a year to the day.

  11. McCarthy and Johnson in need of New Year cheerpublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

Ipswich Town v Bristol City (19:45 GMT)

Two managers who'll be desperate to see out 2016 with three vital points meet at Portman Road this evening.

Mick McCarthy's Ipswich and Lee Johnson's Bristol City haven't exactly enjoyed the most profitable of Decembers.

Johnson's Robins have lost seven of their past eight games and their last victory came against the Tractor Boys at Ashton Gate on 3 December.

McCarthy, meanwhile, knows he needs to reverse a run of three defeats in their past five games to keep the baying home fans at bay.

  12. Royals look to avoid Craven Cottage maulingpublished at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

    Reading v Fulham (20:00 GMT)

Craven Cottage scoreboardImage source, Rex Features

Reading's last meeting with Fulham came just four weeks ago and made for horrific viewing for Royals fans.

A 5-0 win for Fulham ended Reading's five-match winning run courtesy of two goals from Chris Martin.

But, Jaap Stam's men have won three out of four since that mauling in west London and are now firmly ensconced in third place.

Fulham, who are unbeaten in their past five games, will fancy their chances of causing an upset at the Madejski Stadium and put in an impressive Boxing Day performance with a 2-0 win at Ipswich.

  13. Forest takeover 'significantly advanced'published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest (19:45 GMT)

    ForestImage source, Rex Features

As Forest prepare for their trip to St James' Park, their takeover rumbles on.

A United States consortium, led by ex-San Diego Padres baseball team owner John Jay Moores, is interested in buying the Championship club from current owner Fawaz Al Hasawi.

Al Hasawi said in early November the deal could be completed in "six to eight weeks" and BBC Sport now understands Moores' consortium will return to England in early 2017 with the deal significantly advanced and completion imminent.

  14. Rafa's men look for responsepublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2016

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest (19:45 GMT)

Rafa Benitez and Mikel AntiaImage source, PA

Newcastle lost their grip on the top after Boxing Day's home defeat by Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton's subsequent victory against QPR on Tuesday.

But, with the Seagulls' match against Cardiff called off tonight, a win would take them back to the summit.

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez will hope for a less eventful encounter than the last meeting between these sides to get things back on track.

A game of two penalties, two red cards and three goals eventually saw Newcastle lose 2-1 to Forest at the City Ground on 2 December.

The omens on Forest finding the net this evening are less than promising with Newcastle having won their last five home league games against Forest, keeping a clean sheet in the last three.

Aston Villa 1-1 Leeds United; Rotherham 1-2 Burton

    Jonathan KodijaImage source, Rex Features

Thursday treated us to two games in the Championship.

Jonathan Kodjia's late penalty preserved Aston Villa's unbeaten home record as they salvaged a draw against in-form Leeds.

Pontus Jansson had headed the visitors ahead from a corner after the break.

Meanwhile, two quick first-half goals helped Burton edge past bottom side Rotherham and move five points clear of the relegation zone.

Chris O'Grady tapped in against his old club to put the Brewers ahead before Jackson Irvine's second.

Tom Adeyemi pulled one back for the Millers but an equaliser eluded them.
