  1. 'Can Plymouth get a replay?'published at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Well Plymouth can go home and say they have had a shot - although it was 30 yards wide of the post.

I would think the game plan is more of the same for them as they defended very strongly in the first half, but at what minute do we start thinking Plymouth can get a replay here?

Mark Taylor: Why should Plymouth play an open game and lose 5-0. It is up to Liverpool to break them down and force them to attack.

Salman Jaffer: It's a joke Klopp getting bashed for a young exciting lineup, people will look to criticize anything. Youth deserve chances.

Titus: People moan about the selection of the big teams in the cup however all the players on the pitch have professional contracts,

Tottenham v Aston Villa (16:00 GMT)

Erik Lamela is the only injury absentee for Tottenham, who are likely to be much-changed in keeping with Mauricio Pochettino's typical selection policy for domestic cup ties.

Michel Vorm, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Vincent Janssen are among the fringe players hoping to start.

There could be an Aston Villa debut in goal for loan signing Sam Johnstone, who has joined from Manchester United.

Mile Jedinak has overcome illness and should return in midfield.

Emre Can, one of the few senior pros on display for Liverpool today, gets into space to attack a cross but he can't get his forehead on it. Plymouth then counter and powerful striker Paul Garita does well to win a free-kick which comes to nothing.

  8. 'Liverpool have quality on bench'published at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Liverpool have only really had one decent chance, but they do have the quality on the bench if needed.

I think that will depend on how long the game goes on without any goals.

Michy Batshuayi has not made much of a splash in the Premier League since arriving at Chelsea in a £32m summer move.

But Blues boss Conte says the tie is a chance for 23-year-old Batshuayi to stake his claim in the team, with top scorer Diego Costa rested.

"I have a good opportunity in this game to see Michy from the start, and this is important. Diego is doing very well, he is playing a lot," said the Italian.

Wednesday have ambitions of a Premier League return for the first time since relegation in 2000. So this could represent a good test of their credentials.

But there is bad news. The Owls have been eliminated from their past 12 FA Cup ties against Premier League opponents, since beating rivals Sheffield United in the semi-final of the 1992-93 competition.

Danny O'Brien: Anyone defending Liverpool selection are a joke. Smaller clubs would get fined for that team.

Peter Campbell: The old 6-3-1 formation from Plymouth. A test of patience for Liverpool's youngest ever team

Trevor Kirkpatrick: Can Plymouth defend for their lives all game and get a 90th minute corner!! Win 1 nil!!

Number two in goal and number nine at left-back. This will not stand, Sheffield Wednesday.

    And then this in Europe:

Middlesbrough v Sheff Wed (15:00 GMT)

New Middlesbrough striker Rudy Gestede has to be content with a place on the bench, just four days after his £6m-plus move from Aston Villa.

Boro gaffer Aitor Karanka makes five changes from the side which drew 0-0 against Leicester on Monday.

Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday make six changes from their goalless stalemate against Wolves.

Number two keeper Joe Wildsmith (literally - he wears the number two shirt...) comes in, along with skipper Glenn Loovens and midfielder David Jones.

Boro XI: Guzan, Chambers, Ayala, Bernardo, Friend, De Roon, Clayton, Leadbitter, Traore, Stuani, Negredo.

Wednesday XI: Wildsmith, Palmer, Lees, Loovens, Pudil, Bannan, Jones, Reach, Wallace, Forestieri, Fletcher.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:18 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth

A single minute of added time sees Plymouth launch an attack and win a free-kick near the corner flag. Their fans loved that. In it comes, easily cleared. Puff, puff, puff goes the official, half-time.

A half of attack v defence and where Liverpool's youngsters haven't done too much to warrant hype. Still, you get the feeling Plymouth will have to go some to hold out as the Reds attack the Kop after the break.

    Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth

You get the sense these Plymouth players are now collectively signed up to the task of blocking everything that moves. As Alberto Moreno puts a ball in they are lining up to head it clear. The ball presents a shooting chance but again, bodies fly out to block it. It's like an episode of Game of Thrones, battle, battle, battle.
