  1. 'Plymouth are stubborn'published at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

Plymouth have made it very, very difficult.

They are stubborn, hard to break down, and Liverpool have dominated possession without Luke McCormick having too much to do in the Plymouth goal.

You wonder whether an Adam Lallana or Daniel Sturridge could be the difference.

Shey Ojo's ears are ringing as he over runs the ball for a goal kick and runs into the mass of Plymouth fans behind the goal. A massive roar.

  3. An ear flickerpublished at 42 mins

We are seeing some classic Sunday League behaviour.

Plymouth defender Sonny Bradley is grabbing Emre Can under the arm pit and flicking his ear. The Premier League player doesn't take kindly to this and is asking the referee to look more closely.

It's a little weak but I like it. Football needs more flicking now that Subbuteo isn't a staple for young kids.

Liverpool's eighth corner of the day gets the same treatment as many of the others, it's hoofed clear emphatically.

I don't think Plymouth have had an attack, certainly their shots on goal tally reads zero.

Harrison Short: Given Liverpool's starting XI, surely this is the opportunity for Plymouth to take this game to them. Why sit back and defend??

Paul Thompson: With fixture congestion and burnout among players, it's understandable that Klopp has to rotate. People need to be realistic.

Chris Townsend: Could Plymouth have any less ambition and attacking intent?

That's not a bad looking Chelsea side considering they've made nine changes. The lad Batshuayi cost £32m or so. Must be nice to keep that kind of talent on the bench. What would Plymouth give for such luxury?

  8. Terry startspublished at 14:09 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

Chelsea v Peterborough United (15:00 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea make nine changes from the team which lost to Spurs, and still name a very, very good looking side indeed.

John Terry returns, as do Cesc Fabregas, Branislav Ivanovic and Willian among others.

Chelsea: Begovic, Zouma, Terry (c), Cahill, Ivanovic, Fabregas, Chalobah, Loftus-Cheek, Pedro, Batshuayi, Willian

Alberto Moreno takes yet another Liverpool corner. This time he goes for the Arsenal move - circa 1994. A near post chip, hoping for a Steve Bould flick on and Tony Adams to arrive. Instead Luke McCormick catches it and holds the ball above his head as if he's showcasing an award winning cheese.

Another Liverpool free-kick, this time Divock Origi wants a hit from 30 yards. Poor, really poor.

That's so into the wall it was as if Banksy had sprayed the ball onto the obstacle. Lift it Divock, lift it!

Gary Miller just felt his heart leap into his throat. The Plymouth defender stooped to head a corner clear and had that nasty feeling of knowing the ball was heading towards his own goal. It's a foot wide. Breathe Gary, breathe.

If Liverpool get a goal the flood gates could open because Plymouth then have to get out and at them.

But until Liverpool work that goal it will be a frustrating time for them. They have to stay patient and keep getting their best players on the ball to try and produce that little bit of magic.

Plymouth have not laid a glove on Liverpool, they have not been interested in crossing the half-way line. They are just sitting in and defending for their lives - and doing it very well.

A quick look at the stats shows Plymouth have had 103 touches in all. Kevin Stewart and Ovie Ejaria have had 93 between them for the hosts, who have a shot blocked as Sheyi Ojo is denied.

Simon Robert: Given our league position and a League Cup semi-final coming up, as a Liverpool fan, this is the line-up I would expect and agree with. Win, lose or draw.

Steve Robbo: Klopp intently interested in all levels of football. Think of all the top level managers in Premiership he is the only one who could also excel at grass roots.

Aaron Watt: Fans never happy. Moan when the youth don't get a chance and are farmed out on loan and moan when they do in a fantastic competition. Judge on performance.

Divock Origi, pressured by David Fox on the edge of the box, Liverpool have to start again. The ball is worked wide right and they make a hash of things, a goal kick for Plymouth. Adam Lallana warms up, as does Roberto Firmino and Ragnar Klavan. Daniel Sturridge is smiling on the bench, sharing jokes with whoever will listen. Study the game Daniel, study the game.

As Kevin Stewart fires wide for the second time from range, a look at the average positions Plymouth players have taken up is revealing. Their central defenders are - on average - in their own penalty area.

  17. 'Liverpool completely dominating'published at 13:58 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth

    John Hartson

Liverpool are completely dominating possession, completely dominating the game. For them it is a case of being patient and breaking Plymouth down.

Jurgen Klopp is clapping Ben Woodburn after some good footwork, giving him all the confidence the young player needs.

One thing I like about Ben Woodburn is he does not have the standard youth football haircut. You know the one, it's bouncy and generally over the top. He has fast feet for sure though and skips around a challenge nicely in the box, only to run out of room as things get tight near the dead-ball line. Jurgen Klopp liked the trickery and claps energetically. His side are bossing this, as you'd expect.

You could throw a blanket over 10 Plymouth players as they sit and soak up, scrapping for every loose ball like wild animals on an Attenborough show. It's doing the trick as Kevin Stewart tries a Hollywood ball and finds touch.

  20. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 21 mins

Divock Origi slams the ball low into the net from eight yards or so but he is all over Gary Miller like a rash. An arm on the shoulder, a kiss on the cheek, it's a foul. Jurgen Klopp having none of it, he waves his hand in anger.
