Could be three. Should be three. Son Heung-min wriggles clear in the box, but he can't beat the sprawling Sam Johnstone.

Quieter than your local library now at the Lane. Plenty of home fans have it for the Tube.

  3. INJURY TIMEpublished at 17:48 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

Into stoppage time. Of which we will have three minutes.

Take two. Another Villa free-kick in a decent position, four or five visiting players have a chat about their tactics. Ross McCormack pulls rank again, this time drilling into the wall. He won't be getting the next one...

I though Steve Caulker had been signed back by Spurs for a moment then. Cameron Carter-Vickers is his double. Brutha from anutha mutha.

Carter-Vickers gives away a free-kick which Ross McCormack lines up. Over the bar.

There haven't been too many stand out performances. They have been more solid. I would probably give it to Kieran Trippier. He has been full of energy and looks like he is trying to keep his shirt and impress the manager.

Spurs are hungry for more. Dele Alli has a blast from a narrow angle on the right, forcing Villa keeper Sam Johnstone to hack clear with his feet.

Josh Onomah is straight into the thick of things, setting Georges-Kevin Nkoudou galloping down the left flank. He'd give Justin Gatlin a run this lad. A clean Justin Gatlin. Rapid.

The Frenchman pings a low cross across the box, just evading Son Heung-min's outstretched toe.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:41 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

Moussa Sissoko's afternoon is over. A decent shift in the end for the Spurs midfielder, plenty of endeavour and an assist to boot. Josh Onomah is given a run-out.

Damage limitation for Villa now, one would suspect. Unless they nick a goal sharpish...

Less than 10 minutes to go.

It was a good pick out from Moussa Sissoko. You have to be calm when you get in there and pick the right pass. If you have got his pace power and ability you should be causing problems for opposing teams. Villa have got what they deserved as they haven't given it a go.

    Son Heung-min (80 mins)

Spurs put their name in the pot. Son Heung-min sweeps home from six yards after being picked out by Moussa Sissoko's cut-back.

    Neat build-up, neat finish.

Moussa Sissoko hasn't scored for Spurs since his £30m summer move - and he still hasn't. He tries to curl in from a tight angle, Sam Johnstone equal to it.

Kritt Normsaskul: Ben Davies showing more of a striker's instinct than Jannsen ever did in the game.

Dom Brunetti: Last season I thought #FACup, external spark was back but this weekends ties with weakened sides and low crowds think again.

James F Dale: Why are @SpursOfficial, external playing 6 defenders at home to a champ side?! No creativity. No pace. No goal threat.

Yes! A triple substitution. Up there with your right-back scoring and an outfield player going in net as the great things you rarely see at the football.

On come Ross McCormack, Andre Green and Keinan Davis.

"Shooooooot! plead the Spurs fans as Eric Dier collects the ball about 25 yards out. So he does. And they wish he hadn't.

Villa keeper Sam Johnstone isn't bothered, Jill sat in Row K is. She has to duck.

Georges-Kevin N'Koudou has only just come on the pitch but he has put a really good ball into the area and that is a clever header from Ben Davies - what he's doing in there I don't really know.

Talk about an instant impact! Spurs sub Georges-Kevin N'Koudou swings a lovely ball in from the left flank, which is just begging to be headed in. Left-back Ben Davies does exactly that, nodding in his first Spurs goal from a central position.

Time for another Spurs change. Off comes Toby Alderweireld, who only came back from injury last month, with Georges-Kévin N'Koudou coming on. Can the summer signing provide some attacking spark?
