Sunderland captain John O'Shea: "Unacceptable today, not good enough. Away from home you have to be resilient together, but the goals we conceded were not acceptable and the players have to take responsibility.

"Nowhere near good enough, and we will have to rectify this quickly. There is no excuse for what went on, and it's something we will have to look at collectively and individually and dust ourselves down very quickly.

"The dressing room is not a good place at the minute but we know we can quickly turn this around. We have to have the attitude that we fight together.

"We want to give ourselves a chance and make teams earn their goals, not gift them like we did today. Burnley took their chances well but we helped them a lot along the way."

  2. 'We need to find that consistency'published at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Leicester 1-0 West Ham

    Leicester City

Another happy face from the Leicester camp is Demarai Gray, and he has reiterated the point that the defending champions need to find some consistency in the new year.

“We ended the year on a positive note and our performance today was better than it has been over the last few weeks. Hopefully now we can get back some of that consistency,” he said.

“Today we just said we should go out and do what we do best, and that’s what we’ve done.

“I’ve always believed that if we pick up momentum and start winning games then we’ll go back to being a hard team to play against, and that’s what we need to do now.”

  3. 'We have to learn'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

Middlesbrough goalscorer Grant Leadbitter tells Sky Sports: "We're really disappointed in there. We have to hold those games out.

"We don't want those points to come back and bite us at the end of the season.

"We have to learn - when you're on level terms you have to see the game out rather than conceding straight away."

  4. 'We don't think we will get beaten'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill told BBC Sport: "We had to dig deep and work hard at times. We were disappointed over their first goal, I thought it was offside.

"Nevertheless, we showed good character. We never felt like we were beaten, but it was a tough game, as we expected.

"We have to keep grounded and focused on what we are doing. This was difficult. We have a feeling at the minute that we don't think we will get beaten, but that is because we're working hard."

  5. 'We need to build on this in the new year'published at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Leicester 1-0 West Ham

    Leicester City

Marc Albrighton has been speaking after he set up Islam Slimani's winning goal in a crucial win for Premier League champions Leicester.

"It’s always nice to end the year on a high note and I think that game sums up our year," he said.

"Grit, determination, everything – we showed it in abundance today and we need to build on this result in the new year.

"It’s no secret that we’re not in a place that we want to be at the moment, but the performance today was tremendous."

Chelsea are a team that seems to have nothing at all wrong with it. Do they even need to buy anyone in January? It might just disrupt their rhythm, and they may we just prefer to cruise along.

Today, I was really impressed by Stoke. But if you are going to take Chelsea on then you will have to play at 100% for the full 90 minutes.

In the last quarter of an hour of the game the visitors were running on empty and in the end the Blues destroyed them.
