It was one long ball and Fellaini pinned Connolly at the back post. It was a very good header

I would say for the first 30 minutes Manchester United were really poor.

Martial was really poor and it was not until Mourinho moved Martial out to the left that they managed to get runners in behind.

Wigan will feel hard done to by that half-time score, but they will also no doubt know that Manchester United are unlikely to play so poorly again after the break.

Marouane Fellaini hasn't scored in the Premier League since December 2015 but he chips in with the odd cup goal here and there. Route One, Plan B.

It is almost as if they said 'forget about this passing, just put it in the box and Fellaini will put it in the net'.

That is by far Manchester United's best passage of play. 

Fosu-Mensah whips it across and Mkhitaryan surely has to put that in.

You feel Martial is better when he comes into that deeper position.

Ah he should score! By far and away the best chance as a lightning break from Manchester United ends with Timothy Fosu-Mensah delivering a peach of a low cross, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is free beyond the far post and should tap it in, but slices it wide.

Will Grigg would have buried that. 

Chris Smalling (42) has had the most touches of the ball in the opening half hour.

Michael Jacobs wins a free-kick for Wigan which comes to nothing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan leads a United counter and Dan Burn slides in and whips it from his toes. 

The splendidly-named Max Power now shoots from midfield for Wigan, hits it clean and firmly, but it is an easy save for Sergio Romero. United then win a corner. Game livening up.
