Kane is a yard away from rectifying for his mistake as Tottenham come down the left and swing over a low cross that skips agonisingly in front of and away from the England striker.

Spurs just got fooled. A deep corner went over most players and was headed back across.

It's a big moment and has given Gent a line back into the game. They have offered so little.

    Harry Kane own goal

Disaster for Spurs! Gent have that all-important away goal. And it is Harry Kane who has scored it for them!

A corner is swung deep into the box and headed towards goal by Stefan Mitrovic before a flick from the top of Kane's head carries the ball into the back of the net.

We won't be having extra time tonight. But Spurs now need to score twice more if they are to win this tie.

Tottenham go within inches of turning the tie on its head within 15 minutes. Dele Alli turns in the box but doesn't quite catch his shot, which dribbles past the post.

A long ball again down that right hand side. Three defenders went for it, terrible defending. Eriksen still had a lot to do, I think it went through the keeper's legs. It's been a really strong, direct, powerful start from Spurs here.

    The crowd are really encouraged.

All square! Tottenham are up and running! Christian Eriksen takes advantage of a mix-up in the Gent defence down the right, controlling a long ball forward after it drops over two away defenders and charges towards goal before finishing low past Lovre Kalinic.

Gent have given hints of their threat on the counter already. Tottenham need to be careful. Conceding a goal will given them a mountain to climb.

Harry Kane is in the hunt for an opening but is beaten Kyle Walker's low cross by Kalinic.

    Ranieri sacked by Leicester

I can't believe it, I was in Seville last night. They got an away goal and the fans were really happy on the streets after Jamie Vardy got the goal.

He's gone. How can Claudio be gone? The greatest achievement ever. They are not in the relegation zone, the stadium has been singing his name and it's been very loud.

I think there will be a split. He is a hero, they could build a statue of him in the next month and no one would bat an eye lid, the greatest manager ever at this club. But is he the man to get you out of a relegation fight?

The chairman is a Thai businessman, a billionaire, a very successful man. He kept the faith with Nigel Pearson when he struggled but brand Leicester City is very different thesedays.

A big deceision, a big call, but still surprising.

    Tottenham 0-0 Gent (agg 0-1)

That afternoon at the King Power with Andrea Bocelli, the cheering, the fireworks, the trophy lifting and all that gratitude seems a long time ago now.

Meanwhile, at Wembley, Tottenham have started on the front foot. They are yet to test Lovre Kalinic in the Gent goal, though.

I think the group as I see it want to achieve European trophies, whether it this season or next. The allure, the enticement is there for these Tottenham players. If they were to get over the line in one competition, along with the move to the new stadium, it's good for the longer-term project.

With a trophy in the bank, I'm not saying they can dominate but they can be a challenger for a good long spell.

  18. 'The most difficult decision'published at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2017

    Ranieri leaves Leicester

Here is what Leicester vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha had to say in the statement confirming Claudio Ranieri's departure from Leicester.

“This has been the most difficult decision we have had to make in nearly seven years since King Power took ownership of Leicester City. But we are duty-bound to put the club’s long-term interests above all sense of personal sentiment, no matter how strong that might be.

“Claudio has brought outstanding qualities to his office. His skilful management, powers of motivation and measured approach have been reflective of the rich experience we always knew he would bring to Leicester City.

"His warmth, charm and charisma have helped transform perceptions of the club and develop its profile on a global scale. We will forever be grateful to him for what he has helped us to achieve."
