  1. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    Man Utd 2-1 Southampton

It is Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the back for Manchester United, clearing the corner.

Southampton get the ball back into the box and Nathan Redmond takes it full on the volley, but his ferocious strike is straight at David de Gea.

Either side and the net would have been bulging.

Southampton's fans gave a huge roar as the half-time whistle went - what a mood-changer that goal from Manolo Gabbiadini was.

It was the least Saints deserved after an excellent first-half performance and what Manchester United's defenders deserved after a shoddy first 45 minutes.

Southampton could feel hard done by the first half - the goal being disallowed, the superb strike from Zlatan and the brilliance of Lingard and you might think their heads could go down but to their credit they have come right back into this game.

They cannot keep giving space to Ibrahimovic or Pogba but it will be a hell of an easier team talk from Claude Puel now after that goal.

Southampton are behind on the scoreboard, but it should be 2-2 after having a Manolo Gabbiadini goal wrongly ruled out for offside.

What an exciting half of football, it flew by.

Manchester United edged it, but Southampton's late goal puts a different complexion on this final.

What a game we have got on our hands here!

Gabbiadini who had one harshly ruled out made no mistake this time.

Southampton are back in this game.

    Manolo Gabbiadini (45+1 mins)

    Game. On.

Southampton fully deserve this and we have a final on our hands.

On the stroke of half-time, James Ward-Prowse gets free down the right and puts a scrumptious ball into the six-yard area for Manolo Gabbiadini to tuck into the net through the legs of David de Gea.

Four in three for the Italian since signing from Napoli in January.

I just think the referee has called that Jack Stephens decision right - just.

If it had gone to a red, you couldn't blame him but he is inexperienced so it's right to give him the benefit of the doubt.

2-0 sounds like Man Utd are dominating but it's due to two moments of brilliance from individual players.

Southampton must think football is a very cruel game - the superior team but now two goals down.

Manager Claude Puel threw his arms out in frustration as Jesse Lingard tucked in United's second because he was given far too much time and space.

Jose Mourinho did not move a muscle. He will be delighted with the lead but probably not with Manchester United's performance. They have, however, been very clinical.

  16. YELLOW CARDSpublished at 41 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Southampton

    How do Southampton react?

Well, defender Jack Stephens goes on a run up front and goes in hard on Anthony Martial.

He did not have control and the referee has a decision to make.

    Red or yellow?

    Just a yellow.

The same colour goes to goalscorer Jesse Lingard for protestation.

What a cool finish from Lingard.  Far too much room for him.

He guides it into that bottom corner. Such a clever finish. You cant give him that much time on the ball - to pick it up, to gather it under his feet, to look up and to slot it into the goal - all credit to Lingard though, that is an excellent finish.

    Jesse Lingard

    He loves playing at Wembley.

Jesse Lingard has done nothing all game but doubles their advantage.

Southampton are carved open on the left with neat work by Anthony Martial and Juan Mata, who finds Marcos Rojo.

The United left-back cuts the ball across to Lingard on the edge of the box and the Englishman rolls it in into the back of the net.

Goals in the FA Cup final, Community Shield and EFL Cup final at this venue now for Lingard.

    Man Utd 1-0 Southampton

I'm getting a stiff neck having to look at the Manchester United defensive line for much of this game.

Southampton are behind on the scoreboard, but very much on top in the match.

Remember, they had a goal wrongly disallowed early on.

Southampton could have had the stuffing knocked out of them by the double setback of that disallowed goal and Zlatan Ibrahimovic's strike - but not a bit of it.

Claude Puel's team are playing with great confidence and self-belief. They have been the better side by some distance, a fact reflected in Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho's agitated behaviour in his technical area.
