Confusion all round from James Ward-Prowse's corner kick.

He whips it in and Chris Smalling misses it at the front post.

Saints defender Maya Yoshida cannot control it, Jack Stephens cannot find a team-mate with the follow-up and United escape again.

The reaction has been very good from Southampton.

They haven't gone to chase the game and have kept possession.

We've seen some great play down the left hand side from Redmond, Tadic and Gabbiadini.

  4. GOOD SAVE!published at 32 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Southampton

David de Gea to the rescue once more.

Southampton are getting acres of room in the final third. The United defence leave Dusan Tadic completely free on the edge of the box, but the Serbian's strike is weak and the United goalkeeper can keep it out with his legs.

Where was the marking? Jose Mourinho's defence is all over the place at the moment.

Again, it is problems down the flanks for Manchester United.

James Ward-Prowse sets team-mate Manolo Gabbiadini free down the right, but the Italian's attempted cut back is blocked by Marcos Rojo.

Southampton really need to make more of these openings.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 29 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Southampton

Southampton are behind but have responded well to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal.

Lanky striker Manolo Gabbiadini does well to take the ball on his chest and lay off James Ward-Prowse.

The Southampton midfielder fizzes a low strike towards the bottom corner, but David de Gea stoops to his right to push the ball to safety.

    A top stop.

A sniff at goal for Dusan Tadic on the edge of the Manchester United area, but five shirts in Red edge him out.

    Anthony Martial is wearing gloves.

It's 11C in London, what's he going to do when Manchester United have to travel to FC Rostov in the deep, depths of Russia in the Europa League?

What a leader and inspiration Zlatan Ibrahimovic has become for Manchester United. His team-mates just stood watching in admiration as he took charge of that free-kick and buried it past Fraser Forster.

It was against the run of play and with Southampton still sore about Marco Gabbiadini's disallowed goal - this will hurt but Saints have been excellent so far despite being behind.

    Man Utd 1-0 Southampton

Ander Herrera trips Nathan Redmond from the back on the halfway line and gets a yellow card.

It's harsh, but referee Andre Marriner made a rod for his own back by booking Oriol Romeu prior to the goal.

Si's Insights:  Ibrahimovic is everything Berbatov tried to, but couldn't quite, be at United.

Jack of all trades: The reason Ibrahimovic is playing well is that general quality of players has dropped in the past 5-10 years despite the hype.

Looking at the replay of the free-kick, Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster was slow to get down.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's free-kick was not exactly in the corner, so Forster may feel he could have done better.

As soon as the ref blew his whistle, there was only one man going to take that. What a fantastic strike.

Must have been 25 yards out. Confidence was unbelievable. No one else was going to take that away from him.

Big man for the big occasion.

The Swede's 25th goal of the season and it is absolutely sublime.

    Stay on your feet lad.

Southampton enforcer Oriol Romeu is the first man into the book for a sliding tackle on Ander Herrera.

The free-kick is left of centre around 20-25 yards out.
