  1. CLOSE!published at 18 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Swansea

Oh, so close! Liverpool pour forward again and the ball is stood up by a superb chipped cross from Roberto Firmino but Adam Lallana - attempting the spectacular - smashes his over-head kick into the crowd from 10 yards out.

Disappointing from Adam Lallana. He is set up superbly in space on the counter-attack by Coutinho but swings his cross out of play with men waiting in the middle.

  4. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Swansea

Federico Fernandez is called into emergency action to dive in with his head and put the ball behind for the first corner. It takes the away side a few goes, but eventually they get the Liverpool delivery clear. All hands to the pump.

  6. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Swansea

Swansea's first real foray into Liverpool territory ends when Wayne Routledge's cross from the right dips harmlessly into the hands of Simon Mignolet. Not the most gripping of starts, this.

That was very patient play by Liverpool because there are 11 Swansea players behind the ball.

It was a great ball in and Emre Can has got to score. That should be 1-0.

Big chance. Liverpool probe away near the edge of the box but it is a good old-fashioned swinging cross into the box that opens up the Swans defence. Jordan Henderson delivers but Emre Can - free of his marker - heads wide.

Philippe Coutinho brings an instant air of class to proceedings on his return. His first real touch is a belter as he kills a pass dead before turning away from trouble in the middle of the pitch. The attack breaks down, though, largely due to the abundance of Swansea players packed around their own box.

Paul Clement is up and prowling round his technical area already, barking instructions, clapping his hands and generally trying to rally his troops to upset some odds.

Already you can see Swansea have a tight back four, with five in midfield and Jack Cork sitting deep. It is only Llorente up front.

Swansea are quite happy to sit in their own half and bring Liverpool on.

They have good shape but have to remember to play with the ball when they have got it and have to work harder without the ball.

    Liverpool 0-0 Swansea

Gylfi Sigurdsson is coming in off the left-hand side for Swansea today. His first action is to fail to control a firmly-hit ball from Wayne Routledge. Liverpool are largely bossing possession, though.

In the home side's first real attack, Georginio Wijnaldum can't reach a cross into the box from Jordan Henderson.

Swansea have nothing to lose. You never know in the Premier League.

Has Paul Clement instilled enough belief in the side to go out and work when they haven't got the ball?

Clement has got a big job.

Unfortunately what Swansea have done wrong is letting Williams go and not replacing him with experience.

He was the captain and put people in the right places. He would have helped the defence big time.

A shout of encouragement from Jordan Henderson to his Liverpool team-mates and out come the sides. After the formalities are dealt with we'll have a full game of football on our hands...

  17. Championship previewpublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2017

Another busy day looms in the second tier where Newcastle will bid to return to the top of the pile after being displaced by Brighton after their win over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.

The Magpies host bottom side Rotherham, who are nine points from safety despite their win over Norwich last time out. Derby play fellow play-off hopefuls Reading, while west London rivals QPR and Fulham meet at Loftus Road.

Nottingham Forest will hope for a morale-boosting win over Bristol City at the end of a turbulent period that has seen a mooted takeover of the club collapse and the departures of manager Philippe Montanier and captain Henri Lansbury.

Elsewhere, Cardiff host Burton, Aston Villa meet Preston and Norwich play Wolves. Fifth-placed Huddersfield host an Ipswich side embarrassed by Lincoln in the FA Cup in midweek, Blackburn meet Birmingham and Wigan host Brentford.

The late kick-off is a Yorkshire derby at Oakwell, where Barnsley welcome third-placed Leeds.

  19. Coutinho return 'big' for Liverpoolpublished at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2017

It is a big factor for Liverpool to have Coutinho back. I don’t think there is panic that they have only scored two goals in four games. That happens in a season it is never going to go smoothly all of time.
