Manchester United suddenly churn through the gears and slice the Celta defence to ribbons. Paul Pogba muscles his way through a challenge in midfield, gets his head up and slides a lovely ball through for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian's shot is block by the fast-advancing Sergio Alvarez's shins though.

United almost undo Celta Vigo on the counter attack, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan's divine outside-of-the-boot centre just eludes Jesse Lingard in the middle.

The ball was bobbling about in the middle of the six-yard box for a moment there, but a Celta foot got to it first.

Mallo cranks up the long-throw, but can't clear a formidable barrier formed by Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba in the United penalty area.

Ball cleared. Pione Sisto tries his luck from 20 yards..straight down the gullet of Sergio Romero.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan gets free down the left, but his pull-back only finds the grateful gloves of Sergio Alvarez.

The United man stayed on his feet after a little clip to put that cross in.

A little less honesty and a little more skulduggery might have been the order of the day there.

Unleash the dragged shot. 

Pione Sisto, who scored twice against United while playing for Midtjylland in the past, takes an ambitious swipe from distance and a tightening angle and sends the ball trundling harmlessly wide.

That was a brilliant save from the keeper but that is a great piece of skill from Rashford. He is looking so sharp tonight. 

United's best so far.

Marcus Rashford slaps in a curler for the far post with minimal backlift - a real one-inch punch of a shot - but Sergio Alvarez denies him with a spectacular one-handed sprawling save.

That was a good break by Pogba and had he been brought down anywhere else on the field, he would have had a free kick. 

Celta are certainly in this game though and any thought that they were not as good as Manchester United, they have put that behind them. They are properly playing them. 

More to and fro, duck and dive.

Eric Bailly has lacked his usual authority so far.

The Manchester United centre-back - who picked up an injury at the weekend - is robbed as he tries to shepherd the ball out of play for a throw in.

John Guidetti charges up field, but he cannot make anything of it as the cover rushes back for United.

Then Iago Aspas nutmegs Henrikh Mkhitaryan to more cheers.

That was an incredible opportunity and a really poor miss! It is not at a difficult angle but he has put it about seven yards wide! 

That will lift Celta Vigo though because they haven't taken part in this game in an attacking sense until then. 

Should have been for the hosts.

Nemanja Radoja dollies a lovely cross up to the far post over the top of Eric Bailly.

Daniel Wass has ghosted in unnoticed at the far stick, but the midfielder cannot keep his header on target, smearing it wide from eight yards or so.

Marcus Rashford is looking sharp and really quick tonight. Quite often he is on his own up there, he could do with some help but he is looking quick.

A little space for Pione Sisto to run into 50 yards from the United goal. The former Midtjylland man pings a pass into the chest of John Guidetti, but the Swede's swivel and hit is well wide of the target.
