Without several first-team players and up against a full-strength Serbia top of their World Cup qualifying group, Wales start this game as clear underdogs.

Chris Coleman's men are four points behind the hosts in Group D, and defeat tonight would effectively end their hopes of reaching next year's tournament in Russia.

So Wales will be walking a tightrope tonight, and they will have to do it in sweltering heat, with the temperature close to 30 degrees celsius in Belgrade earlier today.

Those bucket hats Wales fans love so much might come in handy.

    Republic of Ireland 1-1 Austria

We spoke too soon! Jon Walters has just scored a peach of a goal, a real Jon Walters special, chasing a lost cause, muscling a defender off the ball to crash home from 15 yards.

    Big goal for the Republic.

    Republic of Ireland 0-1 Austria

Group D could be about to be blown wide open.

Martin Hinteregger's goal for Austria has put them ahead in Dublin - if Austria win, and if Wales win, then four sides would be covered by one point.

Only the winners qualify by right remember...

    There are eight minutes left.

Here's the Group D table as it stands.

Wales need three points bad. Only the group winners get a plane ticket to Russia, with the runners up maybe getting in the play-offs.

But is the group about to get even tighter?

    Euro 2016 joy...

It is a year to the day since Wales ended their 58-year absence from major tournaments with a victory against Slovakia in Bordeaux that set Chris Coleman's men on their way to a first semi-final appearance.

A year on, Wales' hopes of reaching a second successive tournament hang in the balance.

Four draws in a row have left them third in Group D, four points behind Serbia and the Republic of Ireland with five games to play.

Lose in Belgrade and Wales can all but forget about qualifying for next year's World Cup in Russia.

It's just 12 months since Chris Coleman's Wales side shocked the footballing world by reaching the last four of Euro 2016.

Led by Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, Wales captured imaginations en route to a semi-final defeat at the hands of eventual winners Portugal.

The bar had been set. After more than 50 years without an appearance at a major tournament focus switched to a run at next year's World Cup finals in Russia.

    And then reality bit. Hard.

Wales may be unbeaten in their qualification group but they have drawn four times and are well short of top spot at the halfway point. Really only a win in Belgrade will do it tonight.

Oh, and Bale can't play either...
