  • Man Utd's 17-game unbeaten run ends

  • United play Saints in final on 26 Feb

  • The club's ninth League Cup final

  • Mourinho's first final as Man Utd boss

  1. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 53 mins

Hull 1-0 Manchester United (Agg: 1-2)

Now then! Manchester United are the latest to appeal for a penalty as Tom Huddlestone lays a hand on Chris Smalling just as he was about to shoot. No penalty given, you'd have to say there was at least as much contact as the penalty given in the first half...

    Jose Mourinho was certainly animated.

More shouts moments later - this time for a possible handball - when a cross comes into the box. Again, nothing doing.

Manchester United win a corner and Jesse Lingard's delivery is a good one, it comes out and then back in, Marcus Rashford is free at the far post but he doesn't attack the ball and Jarrod Bowen clears for another corner.

  3. Postpublished at 49 mins

Hull 1-0 Manchester United (Agg: 1-2)

Neat stuff from Hull on the brink of the Manchester United area as Tom Huddlestone dinks it into the middle, but Sam Clucas can't collect it.

Oumar Niasse then shows perhaps a flavour of why Ronald Koeman isn't a fan by lashing a cross out of play for a goal kick.

The chances are that Manchester United will reach Wembley despite Hull's spirited effort so far.

However, just in case, the only other time they have held a two-goal lead halfway through a two-legged tie and not gone through was in 1964.

Then, not even a 4-1 first-leg lead against Sporting Lisbon was enough. Matt Busby's side lost the return 5-0.

There has been more intent from Manchester United in the opening 45 seconds of this half than in the 45 minutes prior. I don't know, maybe they have had words.

It looks like Jose Mourinho has had a word because it's a purposeful start from Manchester United.

An early tester for ref Jon Moss as Paul Pogba goes down in the area close to Michael Dawson. No dice.

It's the first time, I think, that Pogba has been so far forwards.

  8. KICK-OFFpublished at 45 mins

Hull 1-0 Manchester United (Agg: 1-2)

And we are back up and running. No changes for either side yet. Jose Mourinho stopped to sign a few shirts on his way back to his seat, he can't be too perturbed.

Can we please, for the love of God, review penalty decisions? They are deciding games and teams are being rewarded for appalling, embarrassing play that should never result in a goal. I'm getting sick to the back teeth of this.

Surely it's game like this that Pogba should be 'bossing'. He's been anonymous again. #frustrated.

Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata are on the United bench if needed, while Hull could turn to Abel Hernandez and Lazar Markovic...

I've seen four more replays of the penalty incident and I reckon he's given it for a shirt pull on Harry Maguire by Marcos Rojo. Soft, but in the 'seen them given' camp.

It looks unlikely at this stage but if we end up level pegging tonight then away goals only count AFTER extra time.

Brilliant from our point of view. We said Hull City needed to stay in it as long as possible. They are certainly making a game of it. They will go in and think they can get an equaliser, with realistic hopes of getting to Wembley.

I tell you what Paul, let's go for the weekend for my birthday in December. We'll have a lovely time.

Please, lay off all your barbed comments about spending a birthday in Hull. Mourinho has a job in Manchester, not Rio. Spending time in a fascinating historic maritime city with a great old-town will be a treat, compared to another night in some dull Cheshire village.

What a pass! The world's most expensive player comes to the party, Paul Pogba dinking it beautifully over the top. Jesse Lingard is caught between mind one, volleying home first time, and mind two, taking a touch.

He does neither and shins the ball wide.

In the last 10 minutes, Hull City have looked the better team again.

I'm watching Oumar Niasse, the ball is played over the top and he has no chance of getting it but he has a go and pressures Smalling into conceding a throw. They have a lot more belief in the last 10-15 minutes.
