BBC Sport picks out some great goals from Wayne Rooney's Manchester United career after the striker became the club's all-time leading goalscorer.

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom midfielder Darren Fletcher: "We were in the ascendancy, especially in the first half. We were dominant and were quite comfortable. The second half was quite scrappy. You just have to see game out and we have done that.

"2-0 is a funny score. The game is not over by a long shot. We are better being safe than sorry and we got a clean sheet and the victory.

"Our form was been very good, if you take away the top six. We are in a position that we deserve to be in and we want to keep it going now."

Everton

Everton's match winner Seamus Coleman was delighted with his late winner: "Obviously it's good to score goals. I'm a full-back and obviously my job is to defend but there's no better feeling than to score.

"The message before the game was to build on last week's win against Manchester City so it was important to come here today and get back-to-back wins."

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, speaking with BBC: "I don't know if I can call it rescuing a point when we dominated for 70 mins and created chance after chance, De Gea doesn't make a save. I don't even know if I am happy because I am not happy. We played well enough to win the match. Sometimes it is important when you miss so many chances.

"I think Rashford and Lingard helped to give the team a different dynamic. I don't know how we missed so many chances. We work a lot but the reality is we are very offensive but don't score enough goals. We have too many draws. It is easy to say we deserve to win these but we need to score.

"It is important for him. It is an incredible achievement for his career to have Manchester United's record and one that belonged to a legend like Bobby Charlton. Now he is the man and he is a legend of Manchester United."

Sunderland

Sunderland defender John O’Shea: “We need to give ourselves a chance away from home. We knew second balls and set pieces are something West Brom are very strong at. 

"We could have avoided the goals. They took them well but the creation, we could have done better

“We have to start keeping clean sheets. We had plenty of possession maybe not clear chances but clean sheets will be key for us. If you’re needing three goals to win away from home it will be a big ask.

“It is about us sticking together dig out results. We can defend better as a team but we are not showing it. We have to fight our way out, we have done it in the past.”

Bournemouth

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe told BBC Sport: "It's a strange one for us, as we played so well in patches. They showed great character to bounce back. The goals we conceded were soft from our perspective, ours were great but it's frustrating to give cheap ones away.

"We worked so hard for the goals, but we need to be better at the back for sure."

Watford

Walter Mazzarri told BBC Sport: "I'm disappointed as we deserved to win but made two mistakes and paid the price. But overall, I am happy with the performance. 

"We've been playing with young players and a lot of them are growing. This is positive and we are slowly getting the team we want now.

When asked about Benik Afobe's equaliser, which was scored while Christian Kabasele was down injured, Mazzarri said: "I prefer to not comment on any refereeing decisions today."

Everton

Everton manager Ronald Koeman was happy with Everton's late 1-0 win: "In my opinion it was well deserved, overall we were the better football team and had the best chances in the game.

"Normally if you don't take your chances the opposition might punish you, but we scored one and kept a clean sheet.

"Since our victory against Arsenal in December, we have changed our attitude. We are more aggressive and that is why I think we are winning."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce speaking to the BBC: "We contained a very good Everton team today, we just didn't get the break. We hit the bar and there goalie made a great save from a free kick. It was frustrating that Schlupp was injured and we couldn't get a sub on and the one player we had contained all day, Coleman, goes and scores. Also it looked suspiciously offside.

"I feel the referee should have blown the whistle. Our player was injured and that's a decision the referee should have made, I don't think it's the responsibility of the players.

"I think we are making improvements. The players are having to play to a different system. It's also a learning curve for me, getting to know each player. I have been here before, I wouldn't say I enjoy it, but with the help of my back room staff, we'll get out of this."

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka: "As a manager I cannot be more proud of my players than I am now.

"They have done every single thing.We win as a team, lose as a team. We have to work on the last 10, 15 minutes."

On whether keeper Victor Valdes was at fault for Andy Carroll's second goal: "Victor Valdes is having an amazing season, helping us a lot.

"He is one of the best keepers in the world and us as a club have to be proud to have plays like him."

West Ham United

West Ham striker Andy Carroll, who scored twice before being substituted in the second half: "I didn’t train all week and had a couple of days off, so I didn’t want to risk anything.

"I'm all good, looking forward to the next game. The lads played well and the goal at the end to kill the game was fantastic."

West Ham United

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic: “It was a good week for us after Palace, the confidence we played with, and we used that momentum to come here and put out a strong performance and get three massive points.

“Week in, week out he (Andy Carroll) is a brilliant player. Not only goals. He makes an impact with his presence. His work rate is quality and he is unbeatable in the box. It is very hard to stop him.

“He loves it. He gives you everything. Hopefully he is going to stay fit.”

On Mark Noble’s injury: “We have to wait to see the results of a scan, to lose the skipper who is a leader and a mentor in the middle, he keeps the team in shape, it was a blow.

“It’s all about the squad."

Wayne Rooney speaking about Bobby Charlton: "He's such an iconic figure, and has been for so long. When you sign for the club, you realise how important he is. To surpass him in goals is something I never thought I'd do. I have the utmost respect for him.

"He came and congratulated me in the dressing room so I know he's pleased in some way.

"I'm a team player but records are important. When you finish your career you can look back on it and it's something to tell your kids."

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Tony Pulis: "First half we played really well. In the second you have to give credit to Sunderland they had more of the game than they did in the first half.

“We have done very well. The players have really embraced what we are trying to do and the atmosphere was fantastic again.

“Darren Fletcher’s goal was fantastic and Chris (Brunt) has a wand of a left foot.  We are really pleased. We have a clean sheet in a game that was always going to be difficult game for us so we march on.”

On the departure of striker Saido Berahino: “We wish Saido all the best. I hope he does well at Stoke. They have taken a player who is a proven goal scorer.

“He needs to get his act together in respect to being footballer again. For a long time he has had lots in his head which has been difficult to handle.”

Sunderland

Sunderland manager David Moyes speaking to BBC Sport: “We played better in the second than the first that is for sure. We are giving poor goals away and we are doing everything we can to eradicate it but it is a disease that we have got at the moment.

“(The first goal) was well executed by Darren Fletcher. We defended the original corner well but the ball was bobbling around and we didn’t clear it.

“We led to our own downfall but credit to the boys and credit to young George Honeyman who was our best player by a long way today. We can take some positives from the game.

“We are missing Lamine Kone at the back. He gives a steadying influence. This was always going to be a difficult period. We are making mistakes and I will take responsibility for that.

“We are not that far away (from safety). We have to keep going and hope our turn for results will come. We have given away two or three poor goals but our play is not particularly bad but goals change games.”

Stoke City

Stoke boss Mark Hughes, speaking to BBC Sport: "I didn't feel there was five minutes added on but that gave them enough time to get something out of the game. We are disappointed but we need to pick ourselves up. We were within seconds of beating a very good Manchester United team.

"My only criticism to the guys is that we didn't keep the ball long enough. We are good enough to do that but we needed more care to get up the other end of the pitch. But fair play to Man Utd they put on attacking players and made it hard for us to get out. Overall, the game well ebb and flow. In the end we tried to protect what we had and I can't criticise what we did for the free kick."

On Wayne Rooney's record: "It is an outstanding record and won't be surpassed. It has taken 40-odd years for Sir Bobby's record to be broken which shows how high a mark it was."
