  1. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:47 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2017

    Southampton 2-0 Leicester

Half-time and Southampton are fully deserved of their two-goal lead. Incidentally, it is the first time Saints fans have had the luxury of seeing their side score twice in the first half of a game this season.

Maybe I would feel differently if I was a Leicester fan who has to see them regularly but is anyone seriously wanting Claudio Ranieri to be sacked? His achievement last season is surely worthy of a free pass this year, regardless of the outcome?

Two minutes of injury time to be played at the end of the half.

Ranieri simply has to go. Thanks for last season but you're ruining it now

  4. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 44 mins

    Southampton 2-0 Leicester

Should Southampton have a penalty? There's a clear tug on Dusan Tadic's shirt by Christian Fuchs. Michael Oliver has a first-class view of the incident, but keeps his whistle in his pocket. An escape for Leicester.

There are no signs of Southampton thinking about their games against Liverpool and Arsenal in the cup competitions this week.

They are playing in a breezy way.

At the moment they are getting men forward from midfield far better than Leicester.

That is the difference. Southampton are more willing to break forward and support the front men.

    Southampton 2-0 Leicester

Here's a stat for you (maybe not Leicester fans). The Foxes have now conceded 36 goals this season - the same amount as they conceded in the whole of last season.

Bad times for the defending champions.

    Southampton 2-0 Leicester

Demarai Gray has been Leicester's brightest player and he tries to produce an immediate response with a quick dart upfield but then sends his shot over.

It was a very accurate free-kick from James Ward-Prowse.

It caused all sorts of confusion in the Leicester defence.

    Jay Rodriguez

Butter. That's what this Leicester defence is like as it melts once again in the face of a Southampton attack. A James Ward-Prowse free-kick into the box skims off Wes Morgan's head and Jay Rodriguez steals in to smash in from close range.

Big problems for Claudio Ranieri. Leicester have been very poor in this game.

    Southampton 1-0 Leicester

Southampton win a couple of corners in quick succession as they push for a second before the break. Kasper Schmeichel manages to punch away the second of those set pieces and Leicester take the ball up the pitch to give a well-worked defence a bit of a breather.

    Southampton 1-0 Leicester

Southampton are ahead on the scoreboard and you can't say it isn't deserved. They've carried far and away the greater threat in the opposition area with 16 touches (left graphic), while Leicester have managed just two.

Leicester have gone behind first in 13 games this season, going on to draw three of those and losing 10. The omens are not good for a Foxes fight back.

... Demarai Gray and Christian Fuchs are over the free-kick and it's Gray who takes it, the shot deflecting off the wall and behind for a corner, which Southampton deal with.

Now then. Cedric Soares brings down Shinji Okasaki right on the edge of the D. A real chance from the free-kick for Leicester now...

The crowd have found their voice after that goal and Southampton are straight on the attack again. Leicester, defensively, are all over the place. It could get very messy for the visitors.

Ward-Prowse curved it beautifully. He has belied that earlier comment from me saying he doesn't score enough.

    It was unerringly finished.

Southampton just look a little more clinical in their passing.

    James Ward-Prowse

Nothing less than Southampton have deserved.

The hosts take the lead with a fine flowing move. A rare attack down the right sees Cedric Soares cut through the defence before cutting the ball back to James Ward-Prowse just inside the area and his first-time strike is just out of Kasper Schmeichel's reach.
