    Chelsea 1-0 Hull

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker at Stamford Bridge on BBC Radio 5 live

It has been a pretty flat performance from Chelsea.

They are just, just doing enough.

Hull really did negate Chelsea to one or two opportunities. They have been organised and worked hard.

    Chelsea 1-0 Hull

An encouraging but ultimately frustrating half of football for Hull, who conceded in the dying moments after earlier losing record signing Ryan Mason to a nasty head injury.

Chelsea are doing just enough and probably merit the lead at the break, but it's far from the one-sided contest many were predicting and Hull have every reason for optimism heading into the second half.

It has taken Chelsea the best part of 50 minutes to get behind the Hull defence.

Costa hasn't had a good game so far but you can't keep a good man down.

Hull don't deserve to be behind.

    Diego Costa

It had to be him, didn't it?

In the seventh minute of time added on, Hull cave to increasing Chelsea pressure.

Victor Moses receives the ball on the right and is allowed too much time by Andrew Robertson to pick out a low pass into the area for Diego Costa, who finishes first time beyond the wrong-footed Eldin Jakupovic.

Costa has now scored a goal in each of his four Premier League appearances against Hull.

That is what Chelsea need to do. There was a little bit more tempo in their play.

Marcos Alonso delivers a dangerous low ball into the area that just needs a touch from a team-mate but Eldin Jakupovic gathers on his line.

Diego Costa and Harry Maguire have just had a right good tussle for possession.

I wouldn't try and get between those two in a kebab shop at 2am.

Davies could quite easily have got booked for that.

He has got to be careful - got to stay on his feet from now on.

Curtis Davies has to be careful here.

He's already been booked and has just gone in late on Diego Costa on the edge of the area.

It's a free-kick in a dangerous position for Chelsea and Davies gets away with a talking-to.

Maguire has been a threat. One or two times he has got into good areas.

I am not fully convinced with how Courtois has dealt with that but he scrambled it around the corner.

Nine minutes of added time are to be played after the lengthy treatment received by Ryan Mason.

  14. CLOSE!published at 43 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Hull

For a centre-back Harry Maguire doesn't half carry a lot of attacking threat.

One of the benefits of Hull's three-man backline is the freedom it gives Maguire to get forward, and it's a pretty potent weapon.

The giant defender collects the ball around 35 yards from goal, advances and drills a powerful shot that requires Courtois to make a decent save.

Chelsea have the ball in the net through Diego Costa but it's rightly ruled out for offside.

Actually, replays suggest it was incredibly tight.

    Chelsea 0-0 Hull

Chelsea are really turning the screw now.

We've just had two minutes of sustained pressure on the Hull penalty box, with a lot of the pressure coming down the left as the hosts look to test the Tigers' new right-back Elabdellaoui, who has not played a lot of football in the last six months or so.

    Hull holding out for now.

What Hull have done brilliantly is not allow Chelsea to play through them, not allow them to play between the lines.

They have pushed Chelsea wide to Moses and Alonso who have not been able to beat their opposite number.

Hull have matched up with five at the back so instantly there is someone on the Chelsea wide players.

Plenty of Chelsea possession but not enough where they can hurt Hull. They've had just seven touches of the ball inside the visitors' box.

A half-hearted penalty appeal from Chelsea forward Pedro a few moments ago after he went down under pressure from new Hull signing Omar Elabdellaoui, but referee Neil Swarbrick only gave a corner.

  20. CLOSE!published at 28 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Hull

Chelsea are coming into this a bit more now and very nearly make the breakthrough when Marcos Alonso's shot from the edge of the area is blocked by Michael Dawson, spinning the ball up into the air and forcing Eldin Jakupovic to tip the ball over from under his bar.
