    Man Utd 4-0 Reading

If any Manchester United player has had to work a little harder than he would like today it would be Daley Blind. He was taken on several times by Garath McCauley and Roy Beerens gets beyond the left-back this time. Daley body checks him - free-kick. In it comes to the back post...nothing doing. A tame header rolls for a goal kick.

We are beginning to see a smattering of red seats as people head for the exits. This game has long been over and some are heading for an early chip butty.

Still Marouane Fellaini charges around in midfield, forcing Reading back to their keeper. Wayne Rooney is still out there of course, we could yet see goal number 250.

I'm looking forward to being able to bring you the video of Manchester United's fourth. A howler of howlers from Ali Al Habsi.

The home side have had 25 shots today. They haven't needed a helping hand but poor old Al Habsi gave them one. A nice way to celebrate signing a new contract this week.

Marouane Fellaini just missed from three yards out and it's been such an open game. It's actually remarkable that it's only 4-0.

    This is a feast of a game - if you're a forward.

After making such a blistering start to his Manchester United career, Marcus Rashford has had to wait over three months for a goal, which must have seemed like a lifetime to the 19-year-old.

Remember, this time last year he was still to make his debut.

Now he has an FA Cup winners' medal and appeared at Euro 2016.

  6. CLOSE!published at 83 mins

    Man Utd 4-0 Reading

Manchester United continue to lay siege on the Reading goal. A well-worked corner sees a low Wayne Rooney shot fired at goal from a narrow angle. Ali Al Habsi palms the ball into his six-yard box and Marouane Fellaini is only denied a goal by a defender on the line. An instinctive block.

  7. WATCH AGAIN: Rashford makes it 3-0published at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2017

No - this is not the goal with the super blooper but it is worth watching anyway.

Freddie: Oh dear, no one likes to see that from a goalkeeper.

Stuart Mitchell: Ali Al Habsi! Ha ha ha!

    Two different opinions there...

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 80 mins

    Man Utd 4-0 Reading

Moments before that fourth goal we saw a number of substitutions.

Michael Carrick off for Timoth Fosu-Mensah.

Bastian Schweinsteiger on to much applause for Juan Mata.

And finally Dominic Samuel is on for Reading, Yann Kermorgant makes way.

There should have been no problems at all. Al Habsi tried to kick it with his left but as he planted his right foot he kicked it away from his own left. There was no bobble, nothing wrong. Marcus Rahsford will never, ever score an easier goal.

GOAL - Man Utd 4-0 Readingpublished at 79 mins

    Marcus Rashford

A goal for the bloopers reel. This is so bad, a book should be written on it.

A harmless pass is played back to Ali Al Habsi and he waits for the ball to roll onto his left foot to boot it clear. What he doesn't do is sort his right foot out and it makes the slightest contact with the ball, nudging it past his swinging left peg to roll within a yard of the goal line. Marcus Rashford is on hand to blast the ball in. He will not score many more simple.

  12. goal

GOAL - Man Utd 3-0 Readingpublished at 75 mins

    Marcus Rashford

The drought is over. Marcus Rashford has his first goal in 18 matches.

It's a goal which sums up much of the poor defending Reading have on times shown today. One pass pierces them. Michael Carrick plays it from the halfway line, it's right footed and picks Rashford out.

A stretching Reading defender gets none of it and that's him out of the game. Rashford races clear and coolly slides the ball past the keeper.

Not the finish of a desperate striker. Well taken.

    Man Utd 2-0 Reading

Daley Blind stands over a Manchester United corner... Marouane Fellaini likes the look of this... he's thwarted by Liam Moore. Another corner... Moore heads clear again.

  14. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Reading

Danny Williams has the style of Kevin Prince-Boateng in midfield. He makes a lot of noise, charging around with a glitzy hairstyle. He's looking for a show stopper of a strike here from 35 yards and Sergio Romero watches it float well wide. The shot of a man with a short back and sides.

This time Reading do get the corner kick award and their fans roar sarcastically as a result. The ball is delivered but the head of Marouane Fellaini connects to clear.

    Man Utd 2-0 Reading

This is Reading's best spell of the match. All of a sudden the home side are in their shape behind the ball as Reading open up the play in a bid to create something of meaning. Liam Kelly appears to win a corner in front of the away fans but it's not given. Replays show it should have been.

I think Jose Mourinho may make a change or two soon, United look like they need a little injection of something.

Danny Williams tries to weave some space in the Reading midfield but Michael Carrick robs him. He releases Wayne Rooney who is wasteful... the ball changing hands rapidly suddenly.

Reading come again, Yann Kermorgant will have a swing from 18 yards... blocked.

He is 44 now and it is 16 years since he left Manchester United but Jaap Stam still cuts a fairly imposing figure.

Stam is wearing a dark jacket which is pulled tight across his waist, highlighting what remains a pretty impressive frame.

He is pretty animated in the technical area too and I don't see many Reading players questioning him.

Certainly not someone you would immediately think of having an argument with.

    Man Utd 2-0 Reading

Ouch. That's a 50-50 challenge only brave men embark on.

Garath McCauley plays a one-two down the Reading right and he has the pace to get to the return near the dead-ball line. Sergio Romero races out to meet him and they clatter into one another. A corner awarded. Like two bulls locking horns.
