    BBC Sport chief football writer

Crystal Palace are trying to complete a deal for Everton striker Arouna Kone before the transfer deadline.

The 33-year-old Ivory Coast striker, signed by former Everton manager Roberto Martinez from Wigan Athletic in a £6m deal in summer 2013, would sign until the end of this season as he is out of contract in the summer.

I saw an interview with Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony just a few days ago where he said in no uncertain terms that he would not be signing another player.

This is number two of the day...

  5. £200m for 3.5 pointspublished at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Manchester United

Who would Manchester United sign in La La Land? It would have to be Cristiano Ronaldo! Professor Ian McHale's Sports Analytics Machine calculates the return of Ronaldo to United would bring with it 3.5 extra points by the end of the season. That would probably be enough to guarantee a top four finish! But probably wouldn't justify the £200m transfer fee...

Bradford sold long-serving targetman James Hanson to Sheffield United recently - here's his replacement.

  7. Like moving from Tesco to Sainsburyspublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender on Radio 5 live

Here is an interesting take on Matty Taylor's move from Bristol Rovers to Bristol City.

I am not denying it isn't brave but is it any different from someone moving from Tesco to Sainsburys?

Not from a player's view it is not.

It is where you can get the best deal. It is difficult for the fans to take. They love the football club but players don't.

  8. DONE DEAL - Fulham sign Cyriacpublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

One of the more interesting sagas of this transfer window came at Fulham, who were involved in a confusing tussle with Derby over striker Chris Martin.

The Cottagers have now made a move, bringing in Gohi Cyriac on loan from Belgian outfit KV Oostende.

    Ian Dennis

West Brom wanted a striker and a defender.

They were interested in Jay Rodriguez and I think the player would be keen.

He needs to get away but Southampton are insistent he would stay put.

  14. Fergie told me to turn my phone offpublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

Alex Ferguson and Mike PhelanImage source, Getty Images

More from former Hull City manager Mike Phelan from his BBCSport Facebook Live, external earlier today.

He was asked what he learned from Sir Alex Ferguson during his time as assistant manager at Old Trafford.

“You learn to take your phone off the hook on the last day. Go golfing, be uncontactable.

“At that period, certainly at Manchester United, most of the job was done. There were times we perused players at that stage. We got in Vidic and Evra who were great deals but you don’t want to lose players."

Gaston Ramirez, the gatekeeper to tonight's entertainment.

I hope the mobile coverage is decent at Turf Moor. I bet it isn't.

    That's where Leicester are tonight.

  16. The domino effect...published at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Ian Dennis
    Senior football reporter

Sunderland have been frustrated because Leicester don't want to sell Leo Ulloa.

We talk about the domino effect and everyone seems resigned that Ulloa will not be going to go.

BUT, I have just received a text about the possibility of Gaston Ramirez going to Leicester. Karanka has insisted Ramirez is not going to leave but I have had a text saying 'watch this one'.

If Ramirez goes to Leicester do they then think 'well we could get £7.5m for Ulloa'?

  17. Is Spurs lack of business surprising?published at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

No because Pochettino seems very loyal.

He likes to work with players and develop them. He paid £30m for Sissoko who he needs to improve and will want to get more out of him.

If Spurs were to bring in a striker they are effectively saying 'Vincent Janssen you are done' and I don't think Pochettino would do that.

Ryan Nicholls: Nathan Ake coming back to Chelsea and he can't make the squad :( Should have left him at Bournemouth if not going to play him. Poor guy

Some chat this afternoon linked Ake with an £18m move back to the Cherries but we are assured that is not the case.

  19. 'Watford have no continuity'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender on Radio 5 live

When you’re struggling down at the bottom you need to have continuity. Watford have had no continuity with players or managers.

They may get away with it this season because there are teams down there who are worse than them, but they won’t get away with it again next season.
