Mario Balotelli - Manchester City to AC Milan (£19m)

Mario said farewell to Manchester some eight months after helping City to the Premier League title, returning to his native Italy following a run of only three goals in 20 games.

If that grabbed the headlines, deadline day gave us some sleepers in 2013. Jack Butland joined Birmingham from Stoke, John Stones got a move from Barnsley to Everton and, the previous day, Philippe Coutinho arrived at Liverpool from Inter Milan.

Sunderland also paid £5m to Swansea for Danny Graham. Honestly.

League One Chesterfield have completed the loan signings of Manchester City striker David Faupala and Preston midfielder Liam Grimshaw.

Faupala, 19, scored on his sole appearances for the City first team - against Chelsea in the FA Cup last season - while Grimshaw joined Preston from Manchester United a year ago.

Both join until the end of the season and follow earlier deadline day signings Birmingham City midfielder Reece Brown and Queen's Park Rangers Osman Kakay.

  8. Westwood ho!published at 19:08 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

There haven't been too many permanent moves in the Premier League today, yet, but one that did go through saw midfielder Ashley Westwood join Burnley on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Championship side Aston Villa, with the option of a further 12 months.

The 26-year-old arrived at Villa Park from Crewe in 2012 and has made 161 appearances - 22 coming this season.

Brentford have signed winger Sergi Canos from Norwich, with reports earlier in the day putting the fee at north of £10m.

Canos was on loan at Brentford last season but couldn't get a game with the Canaries.

If you are having a good season then perhaps you don't need to worry yourself with the January transfer window.

Indeed, Arsenal, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are yet to sign a first-team player.

    And Bournemouth aside, aren't trying.
