He was bound to rock up somewhere wasn't he? Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor flew in to Istanbul Basaksehir, second in the Turkish top flight, earlier on.

The former Manchester City and Arsenal striker joins on an 18-month deal, as a free agent.

Adebayor, 32, had been unattached since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season. He led his national side at this month's Africa Cup of Nations, but they didn't get out of the group stage.

I don't know much about Andrea Ranocchia. But he's a centre-half from Inter Milan.

I know they aren't the team they were but you'd take a Milanese defender any day wouldn't you?

Like a Neapolitan pizza chef or a Wigan pieman.

    Ranocchia to Hull

    Hull City

Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia has joined Hull City on loan until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old, who has been capped 21 times for Italy, joined Inter from Genoa in the summer of 2010.

But he has struggled for a first-team place in recent months, and spent part of last season on loan at Sampdoria.

Ranocchia is available for selection for Wednesday's Premier League game at Manchester United, subject to international clearance.

My housemate had this haircut when I was at university. It was 15 years ago, and he was 18.

With Dimitri Payet gone, what can West Ham fans expect? Well the story isn't as bad as you might have thought. According to the Sports Analytics Machine built by Professor Ian McHale, external, the Hammers without Payet are expected to lose around 1.2 points between now and the end of the season.

It doesn't make that much difference really - they aren't under threat of relegation, and aren't going to make European places- they might go from 12th to 13th in the league. It was probably a good deal to sell him for £25m.

    Give it some welly Torsten!

  9. Dembele to stay?published at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

I'm taking a punt that this 'cryptic' Twitter post from Celtic striker Moussa Dembele means he is staying in Glasgow...

Either that or he's just made a killing on the FTSE.

In one of the more 'dangerous' moves of the day, Bristol City signed Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor for a bargain £300k.

  12. Lille offer free entry to women after sexist bannerspublished at 18:13 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

The banners appeared on television coverage of Lyon's defeat against LilleImage source, .

To break away from all the "frantic" transfer action for a bit... Lille have offered free entry to women after sexist banners appeared in the home crowd in Saturday's Ligue 1 match at Lyon.

One sign depicted a woman above the word "kitchen" and another showed a man alongside the word "stadium".

Lyon's president said on Twitter the club were investigating the incident.

Lille have since confirmed their home match against Lorient on Saturday will be free for all women, saying: "Ladies, you are welcome with us."

  13. Liverpool update: Sakho and Williams out?published at 18:12 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Liverpool

Mamadou Sakho could be heading for the Anfield exit door at some point today. He doesn’t have any future at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp and Crystal Palace are keen to sign him to bolster their defence. The Reds are looking for £20m for the France international defender. Palace would prefer a loan deal with a view to permanent move, so even at this late stage reaching an agreement may be difficult.

Charlton and MK Dons are both being linked with Liverpool midfielder Jordan Williams. The 21-year-old Welshman’s contract is up at the end of the season. He’s made one first team appearance, in the League cup against Middlesbrough back in 2014, and he scored in the marathon penalty shoot-out win for the Reds. His progress at Anfield has been hampered by injuries and looks destined to leave today.

Konstantinos Mitroglou – Olympiakos to Fulham (£11m)

This may not have been the biggest deadline day deal, that honour went to the £12m Chelsea paid to Saint-Etienne for Kurt Zouma, but it perfectly illustrates the chaos at Fulham in 2014.

Konstantinos Mitroglou was bought by Rene Meulensteen, the club’s second manager of the season and who would soon be replaced by Felix Magath.

He played three games before being loaned back to Olympiakos later that year and was eventually sold to Benfica for £5m last summer. Fulham were relegated and haven’t been seen since. A complete shambles.

    Middlesbrough

Jordan Rhodes, a man who scores goals in the Championship like no other, has barely had a sniff in the Premier League with Middlesbrough. So it's perhaps no surprise that he is being linked with a late-night switch.

Sheffield Wednesday, £10m. That's the latest rumour on the street.

£10m is now your starting price for a decent second-division striker. Steve Bull you were born too early.

  16. Hull need players - Phelanpublished at 18:06 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Mike PhelanImage source, Getty Images

More from former Hull City manager Mike Phelan - who was sacked by the club earlier this month - after his Facebook Live on the BBC Sport page, external.

"Hull need players," he said. "They were short at the start of the season, were short up to Christmas and now they have injuries.

"They will be looking at a centre forward because you need goal scorers to win football matches. Additions are going to be numerous I suppose."

Phelan also talked about the departure of Robert Snodgrass and Jake Livermore.

"Nothing surprises me. The prices on the table were good and I understand why the players would want to leave.

"It is football. It is up to Hull City to replace them."

  20. Hogan having Villa medicalpublished at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    BBC Midlands football reporter

Scott Hogan's having a medical now at Aston Villa. If it goes according to plan, Villa will pay Brentford £9m rising with add-ons to £12m.

The swap deal involving Jordan Ayew and Swansea's Neil Taylor has gone ahead. Villa will also receive £5m.
