Nasty by Glenn Whelan as he goes in two-footed on Jan Vertonghen. A red card? No says Jonathan Moss and instead shows the midfielder a yellow. He's a lucky man.

Stoke just haven't turned up. Spurs are bossing this without moving out of second gear. Mark Hughes' face is red with fury.

That's exactly what I meant about Stoke being half a yard off the pace.

Harry Kane has no right to hit this ball but he does and Mark Hughes is furious with his defensive line.

More often than not, if Harry Kane is in the box, he will hit it and that's what happened. It goes through bodies, goes through legs and ends up in the back of the net.

    Harry Kane

Perfect start by Spurs thanks to in-form striker Harry Kane.

It's a shocker by Ryan Shawcross who fails to control the ball inside his own area and Kane is on it like a flash to whip it home from an angle.

First shot in anger...and it's into the side netting from the boot of Joe Allen after Mousa Dembele carelessly gives the ball away close to his penalty area.

    Tottenham 0-0 Stoke

Stoke are struggling to get to grips with this. They've had couple of weeks off but they're playing catch up as Dele Alli is allowed to power forward unchallenged. This is a decent start by Spurs but Lee Grant is still to be tested.

Mark Hughes talked about wanting to see a bright start from his Stoke players but it's Tottenham who have come out all guns blazing.

A lovely run by Christian Eriksen sets off alarm bells in the Potters defence before the Dane whips the ball across the six-yard area.

Fortunately for Stoke there's no white shirt to tuck it home.

There's a swirling wind which is making conditions difficult for both teams. Harry Kane goes flying inside the Stoke area after getting caught between Ryan Shawcross and the beast that is Bruno Martins Indi.  Jonathan Moss waves play on.

Mauricio Pochettino absolutely loves Dele Alli and he knows that is part of Dele's make-up. Take the aggression out of Dele's game and you are taking away part of his strength.

But he is young and it will be something the manager will work on with him. I wouldn't be surprised if part of Charlie Adam's job description is to get under Alli's skin and really test that temperament.

Spurs have come so far over the last few years. They are not really used to being involved in the business end of the season and dealing with pressure situations.

As a squad, they need more. The minute their best XI is not on the pitch - as we saw against Liverpool - they are a completely different side.

When they are together...I'm pretty sure if you ask Antonio Conte what Chelsea's toughest game has been he'll say Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Mark Hughes has been having his say on what he expects to see from his Stoke players at White Hart Lane.

The key is to start brightly and get a foothold in the game. Hopefully we will be sharp from the off," he adds.

"Tottenham are a strong side, they are very impressive at home and we will be up against it. We are in good shape though."

Mauricio Pochettino has just spoken to television about Dele Alli after his dangerous high tackle which earned him a red card in his last game.

"We keep going, this is an opportunity to show his quality, play football and enjoy football. He'll focus on that."

    Thanks for that Poch...

Going out of the Europa League was a huge opportunity missed by Tottenham. What disappointed me most is that at this stage of the Europa League there are two legs and a real opportunity to get the job done. Away against Gent they put in a really bad performance.

    Tottenham v Stoke (13:30 GMT)

    Stoke City

Stoke City defender Phil Bardsley, speaking on BBC Radio 5 live's Friday Football Social: "Spurs are a young side, the best team I have seen live in a long time, who lack a little bit of experience but they have the players to go and win titles in the future.

"It's going to be a very tough game for us. It will be interesting to see how Tottenham react after Thursday's result.
