Leicester caretaker manager Craig Shakespeare: "You could tell from the word go there was intensity and passion. 

"All credit to the fans tonight. I think there was a worry in some quarters about how they would react but they were outstanding. 

"The professionalism of the players has never been questioned by me. Having taken training with them, I know the criticism has hurt and perhaps there was a little more fire in the belly because of that. 

"They know they are guilty of under performing but this is only one result and we must build on that."

Leicester caretaker manager Craig Shakespeare : "I could see in their eyes that they were up to the fight in the warm up. 

"They have had to take criticism but we set the tone, they were excellent in the first 10-15 minutes. 

"I wasn't sure what we were going to get. I told Jamie Vardy to be a nuisance and a threat.

"It is one game but it is a start."

Craig Shakespeare says 'it's too early to say' whether he would be interested in taking the job full time.

Even more from Jurgen Klopp: "I'm not worried - I probably should be but we have a week to prepare for next game. We are all playing for our future here. 

"I don't want to be too serious but that's how it is. We can be better and not doing it feels really disappointing. 

"Thank God we don't have to play again tomorrow. 

"Now we have to react AGAIN."

More from Klopp: " If you play well and lose matches then that's just football.  

"But it looks like we never spoke about the strength of Leicester and that's the trouble. 

"I have already spoken in the dressing room to the players, that performance was not enough for sure. We have to try with everything we have to do better. 

"If you are not good enough you lose football games. I have no reason for this at the moment. You can always find excuses but I'm not ready to look for one. 

"We had opportunities to do more throughout the game - we changed system at half-time but the crosses into the box were not good enough. We could have scored a second goal and that may have changed the game."

Jamie Vardy, speaking to BBC Sport: "Before the game we spoke with Shakes [Craig Shakespeare] and he asked us what we thought were the best actions to take. We thought it was to press higher and win the ball higher up. We did that and hurt them.

"The fans got behind us. For us to put in a performance like that means it was a great night.

"It's not for the want of trying [that results have been poor]. We've been trying but it's not been clicking. Luckily tonight it all clicked together.

"Hopefully there will be a lot more goals to come. 

"There has been a lot of unfair stuff written and you've seen a reaction from everyone. It's definitely got us fired up in a good way to put a reaction on the pitch.

"The mood is a bit of joy and relief. We deserved it and now we have to make sure we keep the continuity going and it will drag us away from the position we're in."

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "A bad start, bad in the middle and bad at the end.

"We had a few better than average moments but most of the game was not even average. It was clear what would happen tonight, it was an emotional night but we have to show what we are fighting for.

"We knew how Leicester would play, go back to their roots. We could have done much better. We let them be Leicester of last year - that's our fault.

"We should get criticised. This inconsistency makes absolutely no sense."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: " The language issues become a bit harder when you lose. It's hard to find the right words. 

"It's not that Leicester were over aggressive tonight, I think we were not physical enough. 

"They were well prepared, they were ready. They had their set pieces well thought out and we were giving throw ins away and what's frustrating is it's not like we didn't talk about that. 

"The first goal is difficult to accept and it obviously helped them a lot with momentum. 

"It would be hard to explain my disappointment in German but in English its worse."

Wilfred Ndidi made 11 tackles tonight – only N’Golo Kante has made more in a single Premier League match this season (14 vs Liverpool in January).

Aleksandar Todorov: Starting to play well as soon as your title winning manager is sacked. I've seen this trend before but where.....?

Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater: "It was a much-needed performance.

"We went back to basics, doing the simple things you learn as a young player and we all showed what we are capable of.

"Criticism is to be expected but we have to put in more performances like that. It's hard to put a finger on why we haven't been playing like that. We have a massive end of the season to come."

Jurgen Klopp does say that he 'is not worried' by his side's form. 

Jurgen Klopp is in a very downbeat mood during his post-match interview, saying his side 'didn't do anywhere near enough'.

Jamie Vardy, speaking to Sky Sports: "We've come in for a lot of unfair stick with things that have been in the press but you've seen that the lads wanted to react. 

"The performance did that and we want to do it consistently. I couldn't put my finger on why we haven't been doing that regularly. We've been working hard and it's just not been happening.

"I wouldn't say it's a case of more effort. Shakes [Craig Shakespeare] asked me to play higher up. I did that and I managed to get in behind quite a lot.

"I've been very frustrated with the amount of goals I've got this season but hopefully these will push me on.

"We needed to show that we've got that fight and win or lose, as long as the performance was right, we could hold our heads up high."

Danny Drinkwater: "It feels good. We need to enjoy it and build on it from here. You can call it a reaction. We've come in for a bit of stick. 

"We make our game on the basics and we went back to basics - forcing mistakes, pressing high up the pitch - and that caused them problems and helped us."
