There was such a deftness about that flick by Aguero. There are only a certain amount of players able to do that. Real quality.

Sergio Aguero weaves in from the left, his pass is fired in by David Silva but the whistle had long since gone - Raheem Sterling was offside in the middle.

That is the simplest bit of tactics - get the ball to Sterling, zip it in and the touch by Aguero was delightful.

To be honest, City have been a long way away from their best but they have so many brilliant players, they just need one of them to have a moment but two of them had a moment there.

  8. Aguero opens the scoringpublished at 16:44 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2017

    Sunderland 0-1 Manchester City

He always scores against Sunderland, and Sergio Aguero does it again to clip Manchester City into the lead! Yaya Toure stretches to cut out a poor pass out from keeper Willy Caballero, and then powers up the field to create the opener.

It goes out wide to Raheem Sterling, his low cross is deflected, Aguero is onside and just nudges it past Jordan Pickford.

Sunderland are continuously dangerous down that right hand side. Manchester City fans must be getting very worried. If I was Jermain Defoe I would be thinking 'Billy Jones is on it today, I must link up with him'.

  11. CLOSE!published at 40 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

Manchester City's defensive demons raise their heads once more as again Billy Jones goes close from a corner! He is free to meet the cross from the left and squeezes an effort wide.

Sunderland have barely had possession but could easily be ahead.

There was no reason why he didn't just pass that. No need to zip it. But we are getting chances now.

Sule: Sunderland are not playing like a team who's fighting relagation. They been excellent in this half.

  14. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

City so close to the opener! Yaya Toure pings a first-time pass into the feet of Leroy Sane, who skips past Billy Jones so easily and flashes the ball across. David Silva is on the slide and he can't quite reach the ball enough to guide it home.

If he was 6ft instead of 5ft 7ins, that's 1-0. Brilliant from Sane though.

Sunderland eventually break out and win a corner, which is headed down and on target by Billy Jones. It's an easy save for Willy Caballero but that's both of the best two chances which have gone the way of the hosts.

I think Sunderland will be quite pleased. Slowly but surely they have been getting more and more into the game and their gameplan seems to be coming off. The problem is City have so many special players it only takes one moment of magic from any one of them.

You could hear a pint drop inside the Stadium of Light as the City midfield share the ball around equally in the middle third. If this is David Moyes' game plan you could argue that it's working but it looks to be a one-way street.

Yaya Toure then plays a peach of a pass to find Raheem Sterling inside the area - but he's offside.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 31 mins

Sunderland commit bodies forwards for the first time, and it almost costs them as City break three on three. John O'Shea takes the law into his own hands and pulls Sergio Aguero back.

    BOOKED.

It has gone ominously quiet inside the Stadium of Light as the men in blue just keep and keep the ball.

If this pattern keeps up it could be a long hour to come for Sunderland - though they have come closest to scoring of course.

City paint a pretty picture right across the edge of the penalty area from left to right, all one-touch triangles but again, there's no shot to worry Jordan Pickford at the end of it as Bryan Oviedo defends manfully at the far post to shut out Raheem Sterling.
