Pep Guardiola is angered by something at the back, it gets him out to the edge of his technical zone to wave his arms at John Stones. I think he wants the ball moved quicker. Possibly.

City still dominating the ball but they can't find a way through yet.

Richard Morris‏: Sterling, Sane and Aguero losing the ball too easily. All three need to learn how to tackle!

Craig Smith: Why can't Sunderland play with this intensity and confidence against the smaller teams!!

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

It's been a helter-skelter Premier League game so far, neither side looking in control and playing at the edge of limits for pace and intensity. Leroy Sane leads Didier Ndong a merry dance down the left wing, coming inside and then looping around him to motor into the box, but at the crucial juncture he overruns the ball out of play.

Ex-Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Willy Caballero was beaten all hands up, Jermain Defoe's strike bounced just in front of him, there was little back lift on the shot and is so unlucky.

It was a decent chance on the rebound too for Fabio Borini.

City are living dangerously, we knew Sunderland would get chances.

  6. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

Jermain Defoe! What an effort. Shoot on sight from the (former?) England man, spinning 25 yards from goal and getting a shot off before anyone in blue could close him down. It's a cracker too, dipping and thwacking the base of the post, Fabio Borini is on to the rebound but can only head it wide.

It came to him at a prohibitive height/pace. So nearly a wonderful opener.

Adnan Januzaj, yet to reach his potential or just miles better on his debut than he ever will be again, shows a glimpse of what he can do as he dances past two men on the touchline and drives inside. Wonderful play, but his pass is not up to it.

Still, that's skinning Yaya Toure to add to the list.

Sergio Aguero hasn't had a shot and has only had 10 touches so far.

Mind you Jermain Defoe hasn't touched it once yet.

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

Ultimate confidence from John O'Shea and Jordan Pickford. Pickford must call for a cross as O'Shea steps over it, but Raheem Sterling is inches away from sweeping it into the net. Very casual.

City have had 75% of the possession so far.

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

Lovely balance from David Silva, who spins away from Seb Larsson, who trips him. Silva is 31 now but doesn't show many signs of slowing down does he?

The free-kick is whipped in but easily cleared. City may miss Kevin de Bruyne on dead balls today.

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

Leroy Sane just glides past three defenders on the left and is close to threading a pass into the run of Sergio Aguero, it's an exhausting opening tempo to this game. At the other end City almost lose the ball on the edge of their own area but Adnan Januzaj gives away a foul.

Sunderland surely won't be able to keep this up. They are sending two or three men to close down every City player in possession. There must be gaps somewhere...

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

Sunderland are pressing and harrying Manchester City superbly. Didier Ndong is all over Yaya Toure, Fabio Borini shoots from 20 yards and it hits Aleksandar Kolarov right in the guts. He's over and out, winded.

Play goes on and Billy Jones almost finds Jermain Defoe in the middle. Chance gone, and Kolarov just about back with us.

You don't associate Pep Guardiola sides with 'the long ball' but that is one of the longest passes of the season, clubbed from box to box by Aleksandar Kolarov to Raheem Sterling. A gem of a pass, or a hopeful punt come good. Not sure.

Either way it puts the visitors on the attack but Sterling's backheel is gobbled up.

Adnan Januzaj is caught offside in Sunderland's first attack, before pressing well to strip Manchester City of the ball deep in their own half. Fast start.

Is the Claudio Bravo Premier League experiment over for now? I don't know how many results you need to prove a deviance from the mean, I wasn't much good in science, but the maverick goalkeeper misses out for a fourth league game in a row.All set?

    Tottenham 3-2 Everton

    Everton

Everton fullback Seamus Coleman: "We didn't help ourselves with the goals we gave away, they were sloppy and we are disappointed with them but we showed a bit of character to keep going.

"There were some top strikers on the pitch today. We know with Romelu on the pitch if he gets a chance he will put it away and he did that."

Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku were both on song in the day's earlier game, and both sides at the Stadium of Light have a totem of their own up front.

Jermain Defoe has 14 this season for Sunderland, and needs just three more to reach 200 league goals, while Sergio Aguero is back in the City side and has 22 this season - including four in his last two (cup) appearances.
