Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho: "I am super happy. The attitude of the boys was magnificent. I think I made them feel important and trusted. We organised the team to come and do what we did until the second goal. We defended well and didn’t concede and to be dangerous on the counter attack.

"Then they played direct football with balls into the box. We brought on the extra defender but the mistake was to let them push back our defensive line. We didn’t have problems but in the last 10 or 15 minutes they were in dangerous areas and kept the match alive.

"You are always worried especially when you miss chances to get a bigger result. Anything can happen with tall players.

"I cannot expect Rasford to be Zlatan, Carrick to be Pogba but the group is united. The spirit is fantastic. We have two doors still open for Champions League football. Let’s see what happens."

    Middlesbrough 1-3 Manchester United

    Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough caretaker manager Steve Agnew: "I couldn’t be more proud of the players. The attitude was excellent.

"To come back into the game shows the spirit in the group, at 2-1 it was possible for us to get the equaliser.

"Games against Man United will not keep us in the league but we will take confidence and belief into the next game."

Southampton manager Claude Puel speaking to Sky Sports: “It is disappointing, a draw seemed normal for me. It was a strange game, strange first half. We conceded two goals without being under pressure.

“We didn’t have a lot of opportunities but it was the same for Tottenham. It is frustrating. We can do better.

“It is a pity in the second half it was difficult for Tottenham and difficult for us to find space.

“If we take the penalty for Tottenham then it is a penalty on Dusan [Tadic].”

  6. 'We deserved to win'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2017

    Tottenham 2-1 Southampton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "Always in football to get three points you need to work hard. It was difficult, tough. In the end we were better and deserved to win.

"First half we played very well. Second half we conceded goal with our mistake and we allowed Southampton to score. It is another victory, we keep our position in second and we have reason to be happy.

"The aim is the next game. We have 10 days without our players. We hope nothing happens and all will arrive in good position."

We've flown through today's fixtures, so in case you missed the earlier scores Manchester United were 3-1 winners at Middlesbrough while Tottenham beat Southampton 2-1 at White Hart Lane.

Here's what the bosses had to say after that one...

That was a fantastic first half. Yaya Toure should have been sent off. Sterling had a stonewall penalty - I have no idea how it was not given.

Did Firmino kick Otamendi? Was Wijnaldum tripped in the box?

They have been the big decisions.

We mentioned Manchester City hitting the flanks, and this graphic shows just how much they're looking to get Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling in the game.

Somehow goalless here at Etihad Stadium after 45 minutes that sums up both sides - plenty of attacking verve and plenty of uncertainty at the back.

    Manchester City 0-0 Liverpool

Manchester City are getting joy down both flanks.

First Leroy Sane drives a low ball in towards Sergio Aguero from the left, and then Fernandinho is fouled by Georginio Wijnaldum on the right.

Kevin de Bruyne's delivery drops in the heart of the Liverpool box, but that's dealt with well and the visitors clear.

Joel Matip went into the book amidst all that excitement.

Chances at either end, but that Adam Lallana shot in the 40th minute was the first on target in the game.

What magnificent defending from John Stones.

It should have been 1-0 through Matip.

Manchester City are seriously struggling at corners. That's two or three they've failed to clear properly and almost handed Liverpool the opener.

This one pinballs around the box before Joel Matip fires goalwards, only for John Stones to throw himself in the way.

Well, from City almost breaking the deadlock at one end to Willy Caballero being forced into a double save at the other.

The City goalkeeper flapped at a corner and it eventually broke to Adam Lallana, but Caballero made amends by pushing the England international's fierce drive over the bar.

Milner took Sterling out two yards out.

It has to be a penalty for Manchester City.

Sterling had a tap in. No question about it has to be a penalty.

    Manchester City 0-0 Liverpool

That's lovely from Kevin de Bruyne.

Ball bouncing, and he just casually flights a 40-yard ball out to Raheem Steling on the right.

De Bruyne gets it back and this time feeds David Silva, who sends a low ball across the face of goal and it evades everyone but Fernandinho only for the right-back to dribble on into the side netting.

Sterling reckons he was fouled in the box, too.

  20. Who'd be a referee?published at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2017

Referee Michael Oliver is getting it in the neck from both sets of players and supporters - who feel they have been on the receiving end of injustices from the official.

Liverpool felt they should have had a penalty when Sadio Mane tangled with Nicolas Otamendi while Manchester City feel Oliver has curtailed some promising moves of their own.

    Tough old job.
